So the Trump administration is levying tariffs against Canada for not doing enough to stop enforced labour. That's rich coming from a country that still practices slavery.

If you'll just wait 7 minutes, the Grand Cheetoh will post a new truthsocial blurb with a new reason for the tariffs. It's a never ending ferriswheel of bullshit justifications pedaled to his cult followers.

Nothing he says has any truth to it, it’s not even worth thinking about.

Also.of note, I'm fairly sure that some of those countries lower down on the list don't use prison labor.

And certainly only the US offloads prison management to corporations for corporate profits.

The US isn’t the only country that has private prisons, I don’t know about the countries on that list but Australia has privatised prisons.

I don’t know much about them though.

And this is just considering their domestic slave labour population, not the conditions under which people work for American corporations in some countries. American manufacturers didn't move factories south just for lower wages. Low wages come hand in hand with bad working conditions.

china suspiciously missing from the list

[–] CloudwalkingOwl@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 months ago

China doesn't post any statistics about its prison population. So, yes, it's off the list.

But please note, China isn't imposing tariffs on other countries that use forced labour either--which is the point of the article.

Does this include the ICE labor camps?
