Strangely enough, this is not the first time this month I've misread Weird AI as Weird AL

[–] ristoril_zip@lemmy.zip 21 points 1 day ago (1 children)

When did Weird Al start making tech spoof music videos instead of parody music videos?

[–] FatCrab@slrpnk.net 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You misread, I think. It's a weird A1, like mayo flavored or something

[–] ristoril_zip@lemmy.zip 2 points 12 hours ago

Hmmm no I think maybe it's Were-DEI: inclusion programs for half-human, half-animal individuals...

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

This is just wild seeing this after enduring so many so-called leftists and centrists constantly jabbering about how BidenSoOld for four years. Biden started normal; Taco is starting off in unhinged territory already and is not going to get any more sane with time.

[–] Derpenheim@lemmy.zip 139 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Dude. I genuinely thought it was "Weird AL". Was losing my mind trying to figure out what the fuck was happening

[–] commanderschlepper@lemmy.zip 29 points 2 days ago (3 children)

I'm so happy to know I'm not the only one thinking Weird Al got deleted lmao.

You and me both! Probably a lot of us for that matter. What makes it worse is that the mental image of Weird AL making a short video singing about magic beds kinda tracks for me. I was just wondering what Trump was sharing it for. I know that man isn't cool enough to have an appreciation for Weird AL

Trump deletes Weird Al video? Goddammit I want my Weird Al video, even though I don’t know what song he’s parodying with a title like ”Shilling Magic Beds”..

In any case Weird Al is a national treasure, you can’t just delete his videos willy-nilly goddammit!!

/s

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

The ultimate power move now is for Yankovich to make a song shilling magic beds.

The man is a genius so i have no doubt he can do it.

[–] thespcicifcocean@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

that's what I thought at first too.

[–] nemanin@lemmy.world 192 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Wait, why is Weird Al making videos about magic beds in the first place?

[–] criss_cross@lemmy.world 60 points 2 days ago

Times are tough for parody artists

[–] killea@lemmy.world 51 points 2 days ago (4 children)

I call for a permanent kerning and specific stylization of the letter "I" so this issue is not further confused.

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 30 points 2 days ago

These are the dangers of sans-serif fonts.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 13 points 2 days ago (3 children)

I prefer calling it 'a.i.' because I'll be damned if I'm going to give it capital letters.

This was actually my first thought when I saw the original headline 😂🤣 I watched the Weird Al mockumentary just last week (weird af, but I liked it overall? Kinda jumped a shark or three towards the end)

read it three times and was wondering why Trump would censor Yankovic

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 187 points 2 days ago

The report then cuts to AI Trump speaking in direct, complete sentences inconsistent with the president’s normal speaking patterns.

lol

“Medbeds” is a conspiracy that has spread extensively through far-right, QAnon circles. The idea is that the American government has access to futuristic medical pods that can cure any disease and even regrow limbs, but liberals have been hiding this information from the American public. One sect of QAnon believes the government is using a medbed to keep JFK alive.

Some companies have attempted to capitalize on the medbed conspiracy by promoting themselves as medbed-adjacent [...] Tesla BioHealing sells a “MedBed Generator,” which is a metal canister that patients place under their actual bed, for $11,000.

In 2024, a Tesla BioHealing customer submitted a MAUDE Adverse Event Report to the FDA claiming the company’s MedBed Generator did nothing to heal his dying mother [...]

I genuinely find it hard to understand how people who are this deeply stupid can even manage to keep themselves alive.

My roommate found a large dog on our front porch tonight. He turned his car around, aimed the headlights at it, then came up to the front of porch and took a picture of it to text me, BLOCKING ITS ONLY EXIT ROUTE.

I open the front door to see the shaking, scared dog ready to freak the fuck out and the roommate is getting out of his car to try and pet the cornered animal. I waved him off and kept the doors closed so it could feel safe and get away.

The more attention the dog got, the more violently it trembled. And my roommate just wants to pet the doggie.

My point is there are a lot of incredibly stupid people out there. Their stupidity will eventually kill them. It just hasn’t done so yet.

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Not directly relevant, but: I live in a neighborhood that is not really great for walking since it has no sidewalks. It's especially not great for walking at night since there are very few streetlights. Nevertheless many people walk here even after sunset, and the few people who carry flashlights have developed the strategy of shining the flashlight directly into the face of an approaching driver. It has apparently never occurred to them that blinding the driver of a two-ton vehicle heading straight at them is maybe not the wisest of ideas.

I suspect these are the same people that ride their bicycles against traffic, around blind turns, while wearing noise-canceling headphones.

Yeah, roommate sounds like a proper muppet. But what happened with the dog?

I know a Trump cultist who never learned to chew and swallow steak. He’s almost died choking on it multiple times.

He still eats it regularly. Sometimes by himself.

[–] SuperEars@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

I feel like he could capitalize on a Random Acts of Steak forum. And so could we, eventually.

Nor how they can scrape together $11,000. But then again, some of the dumbest people around are billionaires and their special skill is “being shitty to others” so maybe it’s believeable enough.

Honestly, fear of death/aging/illness is an EXTREMELY powerful motivator. With a deep enough fear, you'll override a lot of things like rationality. At some point, especially with a parent or loved one or yourself suffering from an incurable illness, especially a terminal illness, there's a good chance you'll try shotgunning solutions because it feels better than doing nothing.

I love how deep-facebook boomer mindrot is the official stance of my government! It only got better when the mindrot could generate itself at the low low price of boiling an ocean!

Fuck this reality man. Who can I talk to about cashing it in for a new one?

[–] Ironfist79@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Weird Al rules!

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 76 points 2 days ago (8 children)

Are his followers losing their medicaid soon? This must be the carrot they're showing to still support him.

One sect of QAnon believes the government is using a medbed to keep JFK alive.

So not only do the "liberals" have magical medbeds but they've had them since 1963 and somehow managed to keep them secret for 62 years?

[–] Cort@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

It's why former Republican presidents only die during Democrat administrations. Like Reagan '04 and HW Bush '18.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

These are deeply stupid people we are talking about.

Cult like behavior

You keep lying to the followers and the organization maintains its power as long as the lies flow and the followers keep believing in everything, no matter how untrue they may be.

They will all die believing in the lies.

So like, he saw the video, didn't remember making it, and just thought "Shit, I did something amazing, people gotta know!".

This has to be the first time someone was tricked into believing something about themselves by AI, right? "I don't remember doing that, but there's video so it must have happened"

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago (2 children)

i'm sure someone's pulled a prank on a friend who was blackout drunk where they made an AI video of friend doing something stupid. Like eating an entire 5 gallon jar of pickles without chewing or idk, this isn't really my type of prank.

It was very off putting to hear Trump speak in an adult mature way. Clearly terribly trained AI.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 13 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I read the title as Weird AL and was very confused.

[–] kyub@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 day ago

With low-effort crap posts like this (made even easier with GenAI) he is "recruiting" stupid people who believe anything that's not from reputable sources (mainstream/science is boring and hard to understand, conspiracy myths are easy to "understand " and exciting) into his MAGA cult which is also consisting of right-wing extremists and "conservatives" who are easily dragged to the right and made into extremists as well.

The wealthiest entities in the economy are then allying with that cult and push more propaganda in the hopes of "recruiting" even more people into the cult.

The goal of these political and economic elites is to establish an autocracy without any painful regulations of the economy, so the goal is to get even richer at the cost of a functioning society and democracy. It's the capitalism endgame - merge corporations with politics (going much further than previous lobbying and corruption), establish a fascist ruling class based on wealth and influence, and try to keep the population in line through lies and propaganda. They need stupids, crazies and extremists as supporters of this coup. This works best with right-wing crazies because they are the most gullible and easiest to manipulate. And by pushing propaganda on proprietary platforms, they can convert more people into the cult.

Inciting a culture war between the cult and the other part of the population protects the elites from a class war occurring. If the population is busy fighting with each other, the elites can sleep easy and continue to extract as much money as possible, for as long as possible.
