Paying an escort to spend time with you certainly doesn't come with the same sacrifices as an organic relationship. And, unlike chatbots, "nerdy escorts" are real people who can provide human perspectives on things like AI, crypto and economics instead of just echoing back a tech worker's thoughts on such subjects.

Sounds like something a complete loser would do.

Wish I could talk bullshit and be paid for it...

Any market for pale Nordic males?

Up to the beholder!

(It's a riff on 'but her emails' in case you're OOTL)

[–] fruitycoder@sh.itjust.works 17 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Its funny how to many the whole concept seems new, but to me it's just the topics and price range.

Escorts, and strippers have been entertaining patrons with intellectual conversations probally for as long as the second oldest profession has been around.

[–] ThirdConsul@lemmy.zip 12 points 5 hours ago

intellectual conversations

crypto

Pick one.

[–] friend_of_satan@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

This is definitely not new. Folks I worked with in SF went to parties where there were tech-knowledable escorts back around ~2010.

FINDOM has entered the chat.

[–] Legonatic@lemmy.world 4 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

Is that the cryptocoin they use for payment?

[–] CluckN@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago

“Oh baby whisper me your private key”

That would honestly be a perfect name for a memecoin that's aimed at Findom's

[–] meowcar42O@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 6 hours ago

this could honestly be from the onion

See, everyone? The market will provide jobs for all the junior devs that get laid (off) because of AI.

I doubt these guys are paying someone $6k/hr to disagree with them.

[–] GalacticSushi@piefed.blahaj.zone 44 points 13 hours ago

No, the prostitute definitely just really likes me. She said I'm the best she's ever had and my dick is bigger than anyone else she's had sex with.

[–] Corngood@lemmy.ml 8 points 9 hours ago

Yeah for sure. Echoing their thoughts is exactly what they want. They just want good acting skills.

[–] joeljoelle@piefed.blahaj.zone 101 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago) (1 children)

are they really that elite if they have to pay people to talk to them? idk

[–] BonsaiBoo@lemmy.world 41 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

That’s how these lonely bigoted dorks with new money think being rich and powerful and cool works - overpay for whatever you want and force others to give it to you, with money you gained through slave labor, destructive practices, stealing from future generations and corruption. They think might makes right, so yeah, they think they’re elite for paying people to pretend to care about them when they’re not on stage or social media or in a board room.

[–] joeljoelle@piefed.blahaj.zone 14 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

That sadly seems to check out. I suppose they see themselves as somewhat too good to talk to the common person, so paying someone to talk to them is a privilege for them. Never mind the fact that once you give someone money they are going to change their attitude towards you in hopes you give them more. I wonder if some of these folks have ever had a normal conversation that didn't involve some scifi shit. (I love scifi)

[–] KingKong33@lemmy.ml 31 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Fucking pathetic that with all bullshit about how elite they are, and how they deserve so much more than the rest of us, they have to fucking pay someone to spend time with them.

[–] GutterRat42@lemmy.world 15 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

They didn't get where they are by being popular

[–] KingKong33@lemmy.ml 14 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

I'm not popular either, but I also don't have to pay people to hang out with me like these losers.

[–] Repelle@lemmy.world 39 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I’m a woman engineer and for that kind of money might be able to stomach this (not that I’m anywhere near attractive enough for them to hire me), but I’m pretty sure if I were attractive enough and got hired they would probably only last a few minutes before I completely emasculated them by actually knowing what the fuck I’m talking about.

Sounds pretty fun, actually, now that I think about it.. as long as I didn’t need to fuck them

[–] themachinestops@lemmy.dbzer0.com 24 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I don't think there is any fucking involved, probably lots of crying though.

[–] Repelle@lemmy.world 20 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

Fuck, tears of the rich sounds like icing on the $6000/hr cake. Though they would probably expect comfort from me rather than laughter and mockery…

[–] IratePirate@feddit.org 6 points 7 hours ago

Though they would probably expect comfort from me rather than laughter and mockery…

Just say you're catering to those with a humiliation fetish you get to eat your cake and have it too.

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 6 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

laughter and mockery

some pay extra for that.

A job that makes me in an hour more money than I make at my current job in a year? Sign me the fuck up.

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 9 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

You make less than $6000/year? How? I feel like you could make that much collecting cans for recycling

[–] sneezycat@sopuli.xyz 13 points 12 hours ago

Paid by hours worked, at 10€/h and not given enough work.

[–] Miller@lemmy.world 17 points 15 hours ago

People with the sort of knowledge that can stand real conversational scrutiny will just be versions of the people paying them that have failed to find their way. My guess this would not be about real discourse but gloating about serendipity which is ultimately unsettling and sets up the next visit.

Sex work back then was, I think, a lot more about the sex act. Today it's focused on the escort side a lot, being a human being they can spend time with. Almost a social surrogate. I've known a lot of sex workers who said it was 50/50 on guys who wanted to fuck vs guys who wanted to cuddle/cry/talk. But in this case they're being hired for their knowledge. I bet little of what's happening here is actual sex. Which shows how broken and disconnected our society is - the people driving it, at the bleeding edge, need to pay big bucks for a IRL flesh-and-blood fix. We're all cooked if we continue this timeline of loneliness and fragmentation.

Nah, there has been a sort of "escort / hooker distinction" forever. In ancient greece they had pornai who were mostly slaves used almost exclusively for sex, and hetaira who were educated and usually free(libra not gratis) and were even allowed in symposiums(salons). There's always been class distinctions with sex work.

[–] underThunder@thelemmy.club 1 points 13 hours ago

... white they're having sex with them.
