Further proof that birds aren't real. The anti bird measures don't work anymore because the titanium alloy the replacement birds were made of is impenetrable.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 2 points 19 minutes ago

I don't often see the rare "birds used to be real" take on this matter.

Reject government control. Tell em to suck it, and be ready to back it up.

It's not that they're ahit at building nests, they're just built to a different spec.

Pigeon is another name for rock dove, so named because they live on rocks, instead of in trees. Arboreal birds have to build their nests to cradle their eggs so they don't fall out of trees. Rock dives just need enough stuff circling their eggs so they don't roll away.

They should just lay cube eggs smh

[–] white_nrdy@programming.dev 1 points 12 minutes ago (1 children)

That would be really fun to push out I imagine

[–] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 1 points 7 minutes ago

Ask the wombats how they do it.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 hour ago

Explains why they adapted to life in human cities so well.

Pigeons make nests wherever and with whatever they can find. They make the worst nests but also the best.

[–] Texas_Hangover@lemmy.radio 4 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

That motherfucker has it figured out!

For real, I think I found my new financial planner

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 4 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

I had one in my previous house that build its nest on a ledge no bigger than an inch wide and everytime she laid an egg, it splattered on my back porch.

[–] Matty_r@programming.dev 12 points 2 hours ago

Why use lot stick, when few stick do trick?

[–] Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it 3 points 2 hours ago

You can clearly see how they exist cuz of us by the fact that we shitted their survival instinct

[–] gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world 4 points 3 hours ago

This is the most self defeating use of power I have seen since the last news story about US foreign policy I read

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 28 points 6 hours ago

Anti-pigeon spikes and sturdy conveniently located nest weaving starter spikes have a lot in common

[–] Diddlydee@feddit.uk 51 points 7 hours ago (3 children)

That's the sturdiest pigeon nest I've ever seen, by a long shot.

[–] wieson@feddit.org 1 points 27 minutes ago

This is not a rock pigeon as you usually see in the cities. This is a wood pigeon, they live in the countryside in pairs of two. And are chunky.

[–] IDew@lemmy.zip 36 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

It has steel reinforcement

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

Yeah I think in a fit of irony the anti pigeon spikes made a perfect structural scaffolding for the pigeon to build the ideal nest.

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 7 points 5 hours ago

I didn't know pigeons were capable of this judging by their usual performance

[–] Tiger666@lemmy.ca 15 points 6 hours ago (1 children)
[–] gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world 12 points 2 hours ago

we can be bees

[–] Bakkoda@lemmy.world 23 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago) (1 children)

This nest probably took half as long to build too. The sticks never fell off, they fall at structurally sound angles and the tension as they stack allowed for less sticks to be used to achieve the same height.

A lot of young pigeons aren't learning proper building techniques and it's really a shame.

[–] LuminousLuddite@lemmy.world 6 points 5 hours ago

[–] mhzawadi@lemmy.horwood.cloud 13 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

our work has a collared dove that has done that

[–] orbituary@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

your work has it? aren't there laws against that?

[–] doingthestuff@lemy.lol 3 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Nah, you can own pigeons. My dad raised them when he was young. He got started by blindly reaching up under overpass structures and grabbing a handful of them. Once he had babies he hand raised them and he could let them out and they'd always come back home.

[–] Texas_Hangover@lemmy.radio 1 points 1 hour ago

More of your dads pigeon stories please!
