So ahead of the loyalty pledge ceremony to Trump, support aircraft are heading to the Middle East. Either a war with Iran or the end of Gaza is nigh.

They prepare to annihilate Gaza the very second they have the last hostage out.

At first, I couldn't imagine that Trump cares enough to get us I into a war. But another thread got me thinking about this. If the US was embroiled in a war, the government would have context to start declaring anyone who doesn't support it to be actual traitors and execute them.

I hope that's not what this is, but that would be a typical Trump play. Jump into a whole-ass war that he gives not one fuck about, killing soldiers and foreign civilians, just because in times of conflict a President is given even greater authority and power because of the need for strong, decisive leadership.

Hopefully I'm just being cynical.

It’s not just an excuse to impose martial Law in the us, but

  • that’s what bullies do: attack the weak because you think it makes you appear strong.
  • It’s a basic part of the MAGA playlist: find a distraction, stoke outrage, appeal to nationalism
  • TACO time. If he can’t impose martial law in Portland, find somewhere else so no one notices chickening out. Maybe Portugal or something: no one will notice the difference
  • time for another distraction from releasing the Trump-Epstein files

It's yet another step in the fascist playbook

Trump was very interested in the fact that Ukraine wasn't holding elections because of the war, and because of that Zelensky was still president.

Somehow the amount of terrifying options here are through the roof. Not sure why but I find Gaza or Iran the least terrifying outcomes...

I mean the guy who almost caused a recession for not understanding what tariffs are wouldn’t just cause a war, would he? …would he?

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 13 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Well he might still cause a recession too, so…

I think we’re gonna get a capital “D” depression, and since orangeboi likes superlatives it’ll be “great”, and it’s gotta have a bigger number so there’s gonna be a 2 somewhere in there

You know what they say, a president during war time will always get reelected...

Dane here: This does not make me feel warm and cozy.

[–] DaMummy@lemmy.world 10 points 7 hours ago

Don't complain. There's literally people who live in America now.

My sibling in the airforce is deploying in like 7 days. I have the same feelings that this will not be great

[–] Senseless@feddit.org 9 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Best of luck to your sibling and all of us, that this won't go totally sideways.

[–] TheCriticalMember@aussie.zone 11 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

that this won’t go totally sideways

So you haven't heard about the current US government....

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

They might just shoot up some luckless civilians, declare victory and go home. There's precedent for that.

[–] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Yeah, even the Iran thing was a bit bungled. Gaza makes sense, a more right sized target.

[–] Senseless@feddit.org 10 points 9 hours ago

It's practically impossible not to.
