As if he cares. He has the power

They didn't clap because the were ordered to come to attention. When you're at attention you don't move, you don't clap, you just stand still. From the video, you can actually see that they do applaud once they're released from attention.

I hate the DUI-hire, but let's not cling to false narratives the way the MAGA crowd does.

Yeah but do you think the fat man or little man understand that or do they think it was an insult ?

That moment when the rest of us realize this guy is number six in the order of presidential succession.

Can we start referring to him as "U.S. Secretary of War, MAJOR Hegseth"?

Keep it in people's faces that we have a Secretary of WAR... and the person running it is a Major.

Hegseth called US special forces beirdos.

[–] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 18 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Why does he have a woodland camo top, and a desert tan plate carrier?

That whole photo is a fashion disaster.

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Maybe Hugo Boss should design some fashionable brown shirts for the US military. Bet that’s going to be Hegeseths next requirement.

You can call the SS many things, but badly dressed isn't one of them.

Because you wear bdus to match the local force. That doesn't mean you're also given new plate carriers to match.

This isn't odd in the least.

If youre saying in jest then kudos.

Yes, but what about style? You can't just clash colours like that.

Also, why is his mic in front of his left eye?

When I saw the military marching out of step in Trumps birthday parade I knew we had a chance to come out of this.

It is incredibly hard to walk out of step like that. It took concentration and willpower.

you know, for an infantry officer, he sure does talk like someone that's never deployed.

Clearly unacceptable! Our country is based on Rome and manly men wear skirts!

I had a friend growing up who was really proud of his Greek heritage. To him, everything Greek was good. Mostly I just agreed with him to get him to move on to other subjects. But, there was one point of disagreement we couldn't get past. He insisted that the Greek army was fearsome, and that the Greek Presidential Guards were imposing and scary. I thought they were goofy-looking. Judge for yourself:

Greek Presidential Guard, wearing a pretty white skirt, white leggings, and shoes with black pom-poms on the toes.

I was fortunate enough to see the changing of the guard for these guys in Athens. Sometimes when they do those big steps, they strike their heels and throw sparks, it was interesting.

[–] merc@sh.itjust.works 2 points 15 hours ago

Hope they don't catch their pom-poms on fire when they do that.

They remind me of the Palace guards. Goofy looking, until you realise they're carrying very real m16 rifles.

[–] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The Buckingham Palace guards, the ones with a hat the size of a small child.

The hat is a reminder of the kid they had to kill to get into the guard corps.

[–] merc@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago

Which palace guards?

I knew someone whose cousin was a member of the Swiss Guards, who guard the pope. He said that they're famous for their garish yellow and blue uniforms, but they also actually do guard the pope. When they do that, they're dressed like US Secret Service, suits, sunglasses, earpieces, etc. So, they get trained in the use of antique weapons like halberds, and wear really goofy clothes for show. But, when they're truly doing their main job, they look anonymous and carry fully automatic carbines that they hide under their suit jackets. It's an elite unit too. They have to be Swiss, they have to be Catholic, and they have to have gone through the normal Swiss basic training that nearly every Swiss citizen does. That allows them to apply. But because there are only about 150 slots, it's a really rigorous selection process and most don't make it.

It's innovative. Even a Spartan would admit to latent coulrophobia, if they saw a clown.

Must have been weird for he and Donald to be in a room with people who are more purely patriotic.

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Don't believe it for a second. Those "patriots" will go along with the entire program and not blink.

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

I think that during the next year we're going to find out if that's true or not definitively.
