LLMs are horrible at a lot of things, but this is one area where they excel i'd guess. The things are trained on volumes upon volumes of spicy fanfic and roleplay chats posted for free online. They can probably cater to kinks that I don't even know exist. Because the lonely aren't seeking objective responses the hallucinations aren't as obvious.

Not that it's a good thing that they are okay at this though. I'd hate to find out a person got LLM induced psychosis from their fake AI gf.

LLMs have yet to enter the monetization process where the models get bogged down with ads for pepsi or whatever.

Chud: "I love you, robot who always agrees with me"

LLM: "I'm just holding my pepsi coke here and I'm so excited to say I love you too"

Doing the "right" thing for a very wrong reason is still wrong.

There are legitimate reasons to be skeptical, but the state has no right to your children.

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 20 points 2 days ago (1 children)

States don't have rights at all, rights are for people. But, the purpose of a state is to make society livable and sustainable. There is likely a benefit to society in mitigating the use of parasocial relationships with chat bots as a substitute for actual interpersonal relationships.

I think there is benefit to society in creating alternatives to parasocial relationships with chat bots.

Until then, I see this as somewhat analogous to fighting ADHD by banning Adderall. Yeah, the drugs aren't good for you, but the lack of them is worse.

But on the other hand, crack is also not good for you. I think a society where crack is banned is probably better than one where it is abundant

Agreed but this is a shitpost?

[–] Gladaed@feddit.org 9 points 2 days ago

A shitpost with a shit message might be a shit post

It seems like one of the few upsides of the planet killing plagiarism machine is that it is bringing back forms of unnatural selection we could probably use before hitting full idiocracy.

Don’t see a source on this bc shitpost but tbf I don’t think most people want kids in a world that’s actively burning down lmao

Also isn’t China’s youth unemployment rate something like 20%?

I’m sure it’s not great in other countries either but yeah think I remember reading about the “lay flat” movement (kind of like quiet quitting/job finding struggles in the US)

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's actually capitalism declining the birth rate.

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 10 points 1 day ago

Yeah. Thinking chatbots is why birth rate is declining is like thinking drug use leads to job loss (it's the other way around)

[–] RedstoneValley@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's a slippery slope for any repressive government. Isolate people so they can't revolt, but don't overdo it because birth rates will decline after a certain point.

[–] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

People who don't think their own life is worth living aren't going to have kids.

[–] AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space 7 points 2 days ago

Perhaps they can next bring back Maoist self-criticism, but make it a dating profile workshop

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 4 points 1 day ago

Chuds existed before these things
