I don't know enough about space-time. Does distorting space transfer energy to the matter in that space? How about time? I think it must be A, out of the options.

Otherwise the future of man is less 'sustained ftl travel', and more 'giant space slingshot'.

B. this is because of Galilean relativity i think maybe

the cube isn't fully lined up with the portal so the collision with the edge of the portal/platform causes some source shenanigans and ends up being option b

It gets stuck in between, with part of the cube not being fully outside, it hangs on the edge.

[–] ericwdhs@discuss.online 2 points 3 days ago

This only works if you treat the cube as one object anchored by a small part. In reality, objects are a bunch of particles each with their own momentum held together by forces between each particle usually strong and springy enough to cancel out differences in momentum. This is why all objects tear apart if enough uneven force is applied on them.

If the portal stops partway through the cube, the stationary bottom part on one side of the portal and the top part still carrying the momentum of recently exiting the portal will have very different competing momentums. If the cube's internal forces win out, the overall momentum will average out, and the cube will fly up with a speed proportional to however much of it got pushed through the portal before it stopped. If the competing momentums win out, the cube will break into both stationary and flying parts.

What? That cube will definitely get crushed, no idea what's up with A or B but that cube will get crushed and I'm looking forward to it

C. The moving portal platform breaks the black platform and the whole thing goes through the portal.

Jokes aside, B.

Devoid of any other external forces, in the cube's reference frame there's functionally no difference between it moving towards the portal or the portal moving towards it at a constant acceleration.

Ergo the cube should be pushed out the other side at the same momentum that the system had prior to the collision, and not be simply plopped out as in answer A.

Assuming the black platform does not fit through the orange portal, and the moving panel with the orange portal stops on impact (which is what appears to be true because on the blue portal side we see the surface of the black panel), then the cube is no longer moving relative to the orange portal and therefore has no momentum. Once the cube is entirely on the blue side of the portal it will be affected by the gravity on that side and slide down as if on a ramp (A).
