Their lawyer is trying to get lower bail for them. That's why he's saying this stuff.

I believe the government is still trying to get remand with no bail.

I don't know much about them, but did they claim they owned them? I imagine a lot of people would rent those sorts of cars whenever they wanted them rather than own them outright with all the hassle that involves, and you'd need to be fairly well off to do either.
