I'm going to get downvoted, and that's okay, I understand why, but I just want to explain why some people do this. I tried for years to learn to code in various languages, hell I even bought expensive courses to try and help, but I'm either too dumb or not chemically balanced enough to focus and retain the knowledge and I can't afford college classes nor the time away from a steady job to take them without losing my mortgage, I also don't have the money to pay someone to code programs for me. So from the time I was about 14 and got my first computer to now at 35, every idea I've ever had for a program or a mod or some other coding work needed to be so simple a baby could figure out the code from context clues or I was just out of luck. Since LLMs have come about I have created several small applications that do what I always dreamed of and no one else online was willing or interested in bringing to the table, and a few of them fill niche roles that people really wanted an option for but never existed like mod organizers for certain games.

So hate me all you want for the choice I'm making, but if the alternative is going back to just dreaming about the programs I want to see instead of actually seeing them come to fruition, I'm going to choose this every time.

silicon valley has constantly sold scams to investors promising massive changes to our world, but they always end up just forced upon us and then we have to deal with the fallout. AI is overwhelmingly mid at most things and needs to be checked by people constantly to make sure its correct. I'm sure in a future where we have the infrastructure to handle it, and its outside of private hands it might have a use similar to other machines like the mechanical loom.

But we constantly see AI's shortcomings because there's a kind of "oversell" going on that has happened with most silicon valley tech. Of course people are against it, they witness it failing to meet minimum standards constantly in fields where its not ever going to excel, AND it is being used as an excuse to remove people from their jobs often increasing workload for the rest.

Its application is widely ineffective, needs double checking, fails to meet standards, or doubles work time just to fix when issues occur. Even in terms of "quality being subjective" people who actually care about the mediums do not like the intrusion of AI and can detect its use easily, musicians for music or artists for art, translation for translators, etc.

In China its utilized without fear of people losing their job, and often at the workers discretion. It's something utilized by the worker and not competing against the workers rights.

Basically within capitalism it is functioning not as a tool for workers, but often as a competitor for workers. Until this contradiction is changed or resolved you will never get mass acceptance of AI. The statement that machines are evil or not depending on the handler rings more true. But also not every technological "advancement" finds a place in our world naturally and its possible the resolution for this contradiction is simply nobody using it anymore. It could be a steam engine in ancient greece, or it could be the radioactive hair dryer. A proper analysis of the contractions of AI should be used to truly understand its place.

If you don't use it don't do it because it's shit, not because it's "the weapon of the enemy".

Any asymmetrical war is won using enemy's weapons.
