Don't be too hard on yourself for not being able to search, I'm a student who's not used AI yet, and I think searching using a search engine is a difficult task
Fuck AI
"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"
A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.
AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.
AI is like a slot machine. You pull the lever. You see it do the magic. You get the dopamine boost. You do it again.
It can be addicting.
I use AI quite a lot at work for that productivity boost. I never use AI outside work though. What works for me is that I’m quite used to interacting with my own inner monologue. I rarely go out and seek answers to my questions. Those times I do seek answers I accept I won’t find the answer. I’ve made peace with not having the answer to everything.
Practice being alone with your mind. Go for long walks. Learn to accept it’s ok not to know.
Find a healthy way to socialize that's the main thing. Interact with people face to face.
Cold turkey
For me, the understanding that language models only really predict what you want to hear to sound convincing really made me lose interest. They do often work, but they fall apart when you actually need solid verifiable information and you can't actually trust anything it says.
I think you know exactly what to do. You just listed what you need to do. So start doing those things.
Nobody has to teach you how to learn things if you just go out and learn things. Read a book. Read Wikipedia. Watch some YouTube videos that are not produced by AI. That's where it starts.
This post sounds like a boomer pretending to be a zoomer
Well I was born in 2007 so I am Gen Z but yk many Gen Zs are like boomers.
