Fuck AI

"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

Thankyou for the satire tag. It's so hard to tell these days.

Thank you for the comment. We all really needed the satire tag or we would not have figured it out on our own.

Thank you for the thank you.

Better in the 90th, there we convert an photo to an ASCII image with very few bytes (AI free)

[–] Crackhappy@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Ah, the days of hand made ASCII porn in the 80s. Delivered over 30 mins on a 1200 baud modem.

I want to get off mr. bones wild ride...

[–] PumaStoleMyBluff@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

And then apparently convert the ASCII image to PNG 😛

Not really needed, but posting it as is in Lemmy, it will have a wrong line adjustment, copy plain text in Lemmy don't work correctly. At these times we shared ASCII images with the Finger protocoll (since 1977)

Write in your console (all OS, still works):

finger zerush@happynetbox.com

[–] PumaStoleMyBluff@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Whoa, buy me a drink before you ask me to finger you!

But very cool, TIL!

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 24 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Lol. I wouldn’t be surprised if some kid did actually try this.

[–] ChilledPeppers@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I wanted to try it as a experiment, where a OS s filesystem is just the description of files, and then an LLM actually make them up on the fly. But I am too lazy to do that lol

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago

Just have an LLM do it for you. /s

[–] AlcoholicPenis@futurology.today 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Someone's actually going to do stupid shit like this and use the same excuses to justify its shortcomings.

Glances nervously at the world financial system

"Nah, it'll work out"

[–] dumnezero@piefed.social 10 points 3 days ago

This is some good satire. And, yes, human memory is not made of "records", it is reconstructed every time. AI models are nothing like human brains, however.

[–] TwilightKiddy@scribe.disroot.org 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You say satire, but kids developing "magical" compression algorithms were a thing in programming long before LLMs. This exact idea is not novel, even though it was executed quite a bit better by Facebook. It never got good enough for a real world application. https://github.com/facebookresearch/NeuralCompression

Did you read the fake post?

The kid is a real Johnny Computers

Apples next plan to reduce your photo size on the phone so they can continue to provide absolute minimum storage options. They would probably still have 16GB iPhones if this was even a glimmer of a possibility a few years ago.

I mean i'm sure there's cloud services that resize your pics to 720p then give them back to you upscaled

What is his Weissman score?
