The person most likely to survive is some scrawny-ass motherfucker with a good immune system. Somebody who can get by on very little food, and can also fight off diseases.

Survivorman < Bear Grylls

The former just survives and talks, the latter shows you and teaches you how to survive. It's not about being alone in the wild in the show, he does crazy shit intentionally and backs his teachings with actions. Drinking moisture from elephant poo solidified Bear as a true badass!

Really?

I do a lot of outdoor adventuring and Grylls is a joke. Most of the stuff he does is the dumbest call, worst advice, or just outright unnecessarily stupid. When he does something that actually is valid, you can tell it's his first time because it's done so badly and he misses the obvious stuff.

No idea who Survivorman is, but I assume just another TV celebrity that's found a niche.

Survivorman is Les Shroud and he is the real deal. He was a survival expert long before he started to make TV. His whole deal is he just gets dumped somewhere, along with a shitload of camera gear. Then he has to walk out, often walking parts twice to go pick up his cameras.

It's more about nature with Les and not so much about the surviving part. He does explain a lot about what to do and what not to do, but being in nature and being a part of nature is a large aspect of his show. It isn't sensationalized, the dangers are never overstated. And he usually has a satphone on him and an agreed time and location for extraction. But he is actually out there for a week all on his own and not like most shows where the crew just drives to a location to shoot a scene and then go back to the hotel later.

Grylls is the guy in the group who breaks his leg on day 2 and has to get carried the rest of the way back to civilization. Don't do crazy shit if you don't a camera crew and assistants to bring you back to the nice hotel room in the evening.

I remember seeing a bunch of stuff years ago about people calling out a large part of Man vs Wild for being staged (YouTube link).
