Canadians tend not to mince words when using language like ”enemy”. We'll throw all sorts of sarcastic insults out, but stating outright that someone is an enemy is no joke. Anyone who doesn't understand that doesn't understand Canadians.
I understand Canadians pretty well and I'm really not sure what this supposed to be referencing. Few years ago, a poll found that 60% of Canadians viewed China as a "threat" or an "enemy" (40% and 22% respectively; https://angusreid.org/canada-the-u-s-and-china-how-canadians-rate-friends-foes-and-global-trust/). In 2016, 65% viewed China as a threat due to the coverage of its military buildup, just under half expecting a military conflict with it within the next ten years. (https://www.asiapacific.ca/sites/default/files/filefield/apf_canada_2016_nop_final.pdf)
Would you like to hear how Canadians viewed Palestinians not three years ago? Israel? 75% viewed Hamas as a terrorist organization and over half stated their sympathies rested with "both sides" (despite most agreeing that Israel was too "heavy handed'). (https://angusreid.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/2023.11.07_Israel_Gaza.pdf) What's interesting about this is that this same survey showed that, despite most Canadians recognizing it as a genocide by 2025, 2023 was markedly more mild on Israel than similar surveys from 2020 and 2017 following Israeli escalations that garnered discourses on sanctions as responses to the Israeli genocide campaign. So, there is evidence to suggest that many Canadians became more sympathetic toward Israel once they escalated to a full-scale, total war campaign in Gaza and it wasn't until that last two years very publicly that most even considered it a genocide (https://www.cjpme.org/pp_47; https://www.ijvcanada.org/2017-israel-palestine-bds-survey/; https://www.ijvcanada.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Survey-2020-Israel-Palestine-2020-06-16-Final.pdf).
I'm not sure where many Canadians get this impression that Canadians are some badass, principled people, but their perceptions are about as flexible and contingent on current conditions as any other group of people. It isn't like Canadians view any nations in Latin America as "enemies," and yet they allow their state to support and facilitate violence conducted by Canadian mining corporations on them with impunity (https://justice-project.org/the-canada-brand-violence-and-canadian-mining-companies-in-latin-america/). So, I'm not really sure what it even means for Canadians to view any other state as an "enemy," when their condemnation, sympathy, or apathy seems to have little to no conviction and often very little bearing on how they allow their government to respond to those states; let alone with their longtime economic partner and imperialist co-conspirator, the US.
However, I do know that these narratives have become far more common in the two years since Trump was reelected, and Canadians finally found themselves marginally effected by US imperialism.
👏 I wanna know the response to this from the person you replied
As a U.S. citizen, those numbers seem low to me.
You guys should really be much closer to unanimous for this.
Also, President Pedo leaving office doesn't change anything unless his departure transitions directly into a long prison sentence.
We thought 2016 taught the Zoomers why we all hate you guys but apparently it didn't.
Canada is only somewhat smarter than us. If it weren't for extenuating circumstances they were ready to elect their own cadre of manlet fascists until about 2 months before the election. Another display of dump's malicious stupidity.
So I'm not surprised it's only 41% even though our head of state literally threatened their sovereignty and started open economic warfare with them and our Congress just lets him do it. Canada has a lot of stupid people, just not as many as we do.
Canada is only somewhat smarter than us.
I understand what you're saying, but the numbers don't support this. There are far right conservatives in every country. Finding them in Canada is just statistically expected.
I hate to agree with you but you’re right. We have maple maga here. My nephew is one. We need to be so careful
We haven't done anything to combat their rise, so I'm not so optimistic.
My sister is turning into one and there's nothing stopping it because her husband works in the rigs and is in an echo chamber of bs lies but telling her that just makes her double down and think she's so much smarter because she's going to university and has her own successful small business.
We have dumb people living here too.
Trump no longer being president changes nothing. His enablers in congress, the supreme court, his administration, the entire GOP and a significant portion of the electorate tell me nothing significant changes.
The US has lost its fucking mind. There is no going back.
The polling missed an important question: how many Americans see the US as an enemy state?
Yeah there seems to be a bunch of religious fascist doomsday types that have been quietly taking over the US for the last 50 years or so, and Trump is just the latest symptom of that IMO. Getting rid of Trump or switching to the Democrats for 4-8 years isn't really going to make a lot of difference. Project 2025, Elon Musk, Peter Thiel etc. will continue doing what they're doing.
The garden needs a plough, not a lawnmower.
The US was founded as a oligarchy, only white rich males had any say. They started with genocide and land theft, grew through slavery and imperialism, and tRump has just dropped the mask they have been hiding behind for 250 years. Good to see people waking up to what that country really is, I hope they don't go back to sleep when he is gone.
yeah it doesn't matter who they elect anymore. Americans are dead to me. How can you trust those idiots when they constantly go back to the right-wing well and then say "sorry about that" after 4 to 8 years only to pull the same shit another 4 or 8 years later.
fuck em. shit hole country full of nazis.
The US is not the enemy! He still loves me! He, he just loses his temper sometimes when I, when I upset him. That's all.
I hated the USA since the Iraq war
The share saying “enemy” has risen 15 points since June 2025.
That's crazy, what made the number drop so low?

Creating a rift and tensions appears to be what MAGA wants. I know there are many in the US who do not want this.
Ok, but the Americans who dont want this need to do something about it. Canadians are reacting rationally to US actions. Whether that makes MAGAts happy or sad is irrelevant. Canada needs to do what is best for Canadians, and refusing to accomodate bullying behaviour is the least worst choice.
That's a very interesting statement. Canadians have historically been quite supportive of Americans who go overseas and attack "threatening" nations, why would their support stop at the US itself when Americans clearly need their help?
So you're advocating for a Canadian invasion of the US ? That's a very "interesting" position.
Yep.
They’ve had an entire 2 protests in 10 months. They’re doing soooo much!! How can you expect them to do more? /s
They are making memes on the internet. That will change everything.
In fairness with the entire media controlled by the fash there could well be activity that we dont hear about
It's what Russia wants.
Only their gov, judiciary, corporations, some of their unique domestic religious entities, their wealth class, their consultant class, their gun/death cults and about 30-70% of their imperialist society.
I'm ok with the rest of them...
