The band Muse has surrendered its Instagram and X handles to Meta after the release of its new AI agent, Muse.

The English rock band Muse has been renamed on Instagram and X from “Muse” to “museband.”

Despite the band Muse having had its Instagram account since 2012 and its X account since 2008, it has seemingly surrendered the handle to Mark Zuckerberg’s newest AI agent.

Absolutely insane. If the account was inactive, sure or it was some no name band, ok. But really sucks to see it. I don’t see anything about it, but i hope they were at least compensated.

I managed to grab a nice 3 letter twitter name that ended up being the name of a company who just had twitter support (before twitter sucked) send me a message and they offered to buy it from me - reasonable price too. I wasn’t holding it for ransom, it also happens to be my initals too, and I just posted family shit, small links, activities, boring shit for friends. I didn’t care and it was still early enough I could get the same 3 letters with 2 numbers after. Walked away with a nice 5k pocket change. Had I declined it might have ended up in court, but this shit looks like the billionaires club just commanded it.

Get off of X already, as though there wasn't reason enough before.

[–] k4ro@lemmy.zip 18 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Even @metamuse or @musebymeta would've been fine...

[–] BumbleBTuna@lemmy.world 7 points 11 hours ago

@Metamucil breathes a sigh of relief

Rise up and take the power back.

It's time the fat cat's had a heart attack.

You know their time's coming to an end...we have to unify and watch our flag ascend.

Open letter to everyone here, who's tired of these corporate bullshits and wanna take action: Let's start discussing the solid/concrete steps that we can start taking rather than screaming into the void:

I was personally going after big corporations (To name a few: PayPal, Patreon, Microsoft, Google, anything that Epic Games own, Bandcamp, Artstation, etc.), any state organs who do receive my complaints but hide behind institutional shields, deploying administrative silence, concealing their full name and title during official correspondence and I did and am still getting results through judicial/consumer protection law oriented bodies such as CFPB, DFPI, Federal Trade Commission, and even going after some German judges who refused to initiate a court case when they're informed that the criminals were German police officers. Doesn't matter if it's a company or a judge, you do can go after them. It all boils down to whether you wanna take action or just complain about it online. The latter as we all know doesn't fruit to anything.

I can create a detailed guideline on how to go after these motherfuckers legally for free, which laws they're blatantly breaking, how to contact these regulatory bodies, what to cite in your legal complaints and so on. We can even start a god damn funding pool to take these motherfuckers to court.

I'm open to hear anyone's opinion on what else we can do, what steps we can take. If I can get results, imagine the fuss we can create with an unified voice.

I might be out of the loop - what did Patreon and Bandcamp do?

[–] internetisnotthesame@lemmy.zip 2 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

Bandcamp hides their support email addresses inside of terms and uses policy. There isn't a single contact method displayed on any of their index pages. If you confront them with this, they do not acknowledge it, by simply not responding to your legal question.

In my personal experience, my account was hijacked, so I tried to contact them to unlink my associated Gmail and PayPal accounts, no reply whatsoever.

If you send a legal notice to Patreon's legal department, it returns this channel is not monitored error, and in the very same email, they claim they have no responsibility to address legal concerns sent to them through this channel.

No company or state organs are legally allowed to limit communication methods to a single method. In addition to that, if you lose access to your email address, even with the correct credentials, Patreon sends a verification code to the very same email address, to which you have no access to. Instead of deploying ownership authentication methods such as cross referencing government issued IDs with the data in their system and the payout methods you provided (In my case it was PayPal), they claim there's no 2FA activated on your account, and they give you bullshit solutions like change your browser and stuff. All of these are illegal, directly violating consumer protection laws. Also, they hide their support personnel names and titles to avoid individual liabilities. I can keep going.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 6 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

No it doesn’t. Idiots will still stay because tHeSe PlAtFoRmS hAvE bEtTeR rEaCh.

[–] moustachio@lemmy.world 5 points 11 hours ago

They’re referencing muse lyrics……….

[–] 0x0@lemmy.zip 29 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Muse should join the fediverse.

[–] merc@sh.itjust.works 3 points 14 hours ago

Everyone should use the fediverse. Governments in particular should host their own instances, rather than post to Twitter or Instantgran or some corporate instance.

But, it shows how unafraid of competition Zuckerberg is that he'd do something like this.

[–] Rothe@piefed.social 64 points 23 hours ago (4 children)

It is so odd that everybody seems to dump on facebook (and rightly so), but everybody is still using instagram, perhaps even more than ever.

[–] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

Isn't that where the scantily clad ladies are? I feel like I see Instagram linked with all sorts of shady stuff like that.

[–] picnic@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Nope, never used it, never will.

99 probs but IG aint one

[–] Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world 23 points 22 hours ago

And WhatsApp.

[–] mofongo@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

I had to open an Instagram this year after never having to use it. It has become so popular that government agencies, cultural events, and company's information is only published there. It's also become increasingly difficult to scrap information from there or even visit it from a website.

Makes me really sad. I used to listen to a lot of their music.

[–] Dam_nedShe_fossil@mander.xyz 5 points 12 hours ago

Used to? Check out their latest album. It is pretty great I've been listening to it on repeat. I wouldn't call myself a huge Muse fanatic (no tattoos, I don't know every single lyric, etc.) but I think they're great. Plus their concert performances are out of this world. To the point where I'm literally disappointed by any other concert. They're so good they've ruined me.

If you're going to listen to ONE song off the new album try Cryogen or Hush.

[–] Daft_ish@lemmy.dbzer0.com 65 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Here's an idea, stop using Instagram and it will die.

Come at me.

[–] gmtom@lemmy.world 8 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Sure if hundreds of millions stop using it. But convincing the uncritical masses to stop using it is a fruitless endeavour. Not to mention all the racists and homophobes and attention seekers it seems to attract.

And for me it's my only way of communicating with many of my friends

[–] Madzielle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 18 hours ago (4 children)

only way of communicating with many of my friends

A big joke around here is you can send me a carrier pigeon. But aside from this, do yall not have phone numbers? Your main form of communication with your friends is through instagram and it's the only way?

This is hilarious.

I bet Muse got paid. If I were in the band I'd say absolutely sell the thing- the Muse AI thing is going to crash and burn anyway so might as well get paid especially if they're too dumb to realize MuseAI would be a better handle anyway.

[–] Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world 13 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

museband should have taken museNotAI

Congratulations Zuck! You locked down the rights to another metaverse! Everyone knows how crucial the metaverse is in their daily lives.

[–] Kiernian@lemmy.world 300 points 1 day ago (44 children)

"Surrendered" is only applicable if the band had a choice.

Remember folks, calling out shitty wording is necessary to defeat propoganda.

Probably Meta paid them off. I bet the band wasn't even involved, probably Meta negotiated with the marketing division of the record label.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 20 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Every one of those sites reserved the right to take your username for any reason. They don't need to pay them off, it's in the user agreement

"Your personal AI agent that gets things done" must be this year's most uttered phrase.
I've yet to see it amount to much.

[–] kshade@lemmy.world 4 points 19 hours ago

It, uh, like, can reserve a table for you in some restaurant? Maybe?
