Trump speaks at GOP midterm convention in Dallas

Trump claims he will send $5,000 to every citizen if Republicans hold on to control of Congress

Trump has claimed he will send every citizen $5,000 if Republicans retain control of the US House and Senate. He provided no details about where he would source this money from or the legality of the incentive.

“So if the Republicans win, you win with us … it will be called the Trump dividend,” the president said.

No fucking way he pays out. Not a goddamn chance.

The (300*5000=...) 1.5 Trillion USD is NOT fucking happening

[–] Geobloke@aussie.zone 4 points 1 month ago

In addition, I'm not sure he knows how inflation works

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 12 points 1 month ago

he will say we cant afford it, and it will never get mentioned again. as soon as the files die down again.

[–] notannpc@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

If you believe this pedophile at this point you have no business participating in elections. How many checks were you supposed to have received by now? And where are they?

Fucking morons.

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

And the cheques will go out just as soon as the $2 gas he promised.

And the end of the gaza war

And the release of the epstein files

And...

They will surely come two weeks after the elections are over.

[–] hOrni@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Not only will Americans vote republican, some of them will actually believe this.

[–] MrMakabar@slrpnk.net 3 points 1 month ago

I am not a US American, so why do the Democrats not promise something similar. Hell even proper public healthcare is probably worth $5000 per person in the US.

[–] don_kiedyck@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Bull pussy.

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online -1 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Why are you fuckers promoting this shitstain?

[–] Ascrod@midwest.social 10 points 1 month ago

It's important to stay abreast of the latest bullshit so that it can be combatted and mocked.

[–] Salamence@mander.xyz 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

its called reporting, maybe if you cared about journalism you would know

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online -3 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Theres a lot going on and Trump lies 21 times a day on average, lets not propogate his lies further.

[–] queerlilhayseed@piefed.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

He's the President of the United States, what he says and does matters and should be reported by the news. If no one ever bothered to report on the insane things he says and does, how would anyone know about them?

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online -1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

He says and does a lot of shit that we don't repeat every day, why choose this statement if not to intentionally mislead others?

[–] queerlilhayseed@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

He says and does a lot of shit that we don’t repeat every day

Not trying to be snarky but, how do you know?

Second, I'm not sure what is misleading. Trump really did blurt out a bribe for voting Republican, it seems, which is one of the two named Impeachable Offenses in the US constitution. Seems newsworthy to me.

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online -1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Because I have other sources of news than just the fediverse and there are people whose full-time jobs is tracking his 21 lies a day average.

Trump did not blurt out a bribe because Trump would never, ever, pay it out. But idiots won't know that.

[–] queerlilhayseed@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

By people whose full-time job is tracking his lies, you mean journalists? This is a story from the guardian and was presumably written by journalists. Not sure what you mean by sources outside the fediverse. I feel like I'm missing a thread in this conversation.

Second thing: It is a bribe by US federal laws, which usually cover the promise of an exchange as well as the actual exchange, c.f. 18 U.S. Code § 210 - Offer to procure appointive public office:

Whoever pays or offers or promises any money or thing of value, to any person, firm, or corporation in consideration of the use or promise to use any influence to procure any appointive office or place under the United States for any person, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both.

"Bribery" is also commonly understood to start at the offer, not at the consummation of the deal, at least in my experience. I don't know how common that is in different US states, or if it's that way outside the US.

Beside that, impeachable offenses don't have to be crimes defined by US law, whether a given offense is impeachable is solely in the hands of congress. I actually think this is a good thing to try an impeachment over, it's a blatant offer of a quid pro quo and Trump is getting so unpopular that Republicans might be willing to finally ditch him and pretend they never knew the guy. Who knows though, I've been half-expecting the Republican party to drop Trump and get a new standard bearer for six years now, and they keep not doing it, so clearly I don't have an accurate read of the situation.

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online -1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

By that logic the pandemic stimulus checks were a bribe and so was the undelivered promise of DOGE checks and surplus checks he made previously this term.

But, back to reality, promising an indiscriminate federal policy if reelected is not a bribe.

The problem with it is he's a fucking liar. And you're a fucking liar for trying to deligitimize that stance with absurd fallacious statements.

[–] queerlilhayseed@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'm not trying to delegitimize anything. He is a liar, and obviously the checks are another lie. The Covid stimulus checks and the DOGE checks weren't part of a quid pro quo. This time he said "If the Republicans win, you win with us and you get $5,000". The fact that he's bribing the entire population at once doesn't make it not a bribe.

There can be two problems at once. Yeah, it's a lie. It's also a bribe. One of those is an impeachable offense.

Also you're being a dick.

[–] Salamence@mander.xyz 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

they are a blue maga, once you disagree with them once you are a liar/maga/bot, etc. zero self awareness

I don't think so; FiniteBanjo and I have disagreed a few times now and I'm obviously not blocked. I think they're just cocksure.

[–] Salamence@mander.xyz 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Demanding media do a 24/7 news silence on the guy wont make you win the election you know, you already tried that in 2024, how about you call him out on his bullshit instead? instead of wasting time on something coporate and indie media wont do, especially in this small internet forum

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online -4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Nah fuck you, theres a choice in what to post and repost and you chose a harmful headline if nothing else.

[–] Salamence@mander.xyz 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

its what he said, what else would a headline say?, being a pro-democratic party version of maga wont ensure your win again him either, also a "harmfull" headline like i write for the guardian

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online -4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

What he said is harmful

Telling lies is harmful

How is that not obvious?

[–] Salamence@mander.xyz 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

you know whats more harmful?

not reporting on a lie, so that it keep getting repeated, with no counter.

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online -5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

YOU

ARE THE ONE

REPEATING IT

[–] Salamence@mander.xyz 7 points 1 month ago

the fact that you think reporting is repeating something in support of it shows how little you care about journalism or the truth, no wonder trump won 2 elections with people like you as opposition, literally treating the guy like he is "he who shouldnt be name" and giving him all the space and time he needs to keep spouting his bs and convincing people to vote for him
