Fuck AI

"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

If we are all going down with the ship, I will make damn fucking sure to get the fucks who did this through their narcissism and psychopathy and greed GOOD before we go.

I'm struggling to understand what your comment is saying, but I enjoy the vivacity. Should the ship sink, I'll eagerly await your demonstration.

Pre-posting edit: I think I'm starting to get what you're saying, but I'm still pretty confused. I imagine this is more my own deficiency than yours.

Hey I'm sorry, sometimes I get carried away. I'm just feeling like that, we can't let them get away with this shit. If we have nothing left to lose, then I'll put every effort into making sure that they also lose something on the way out.

Is that too dramatic? I don't mean it like that, that's just my emotions speaking for me, right?

AI doomerism is designed to distract us on genAI's real problems.

Just like economists...every AI guru has a different opinion.

[–] Daft_ish@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Remember that Edison would kill animals with ac current to teach the dangers of ac current...

So he could sell DC current...

Just saying... people can be turned against anything for dumb reasons.

Did this dildo realize that 2030 is only just over 3 years away?

“As fast as we can” isn’t as fast as it was a year or two ago. Looking at LLM benchmark scores over time, it appears exponential gains stopped as of mid-2025 and now it’s just small, incremental gains. OpenAI and Anthropic are aware of this, which is why they want regulations to kneecap competition, but it seems Jensen didn’t get the memo.

Or maybe he did, and that’s why he bought Huggingface. Now that the frontier is crawling along, open models are rapidly catching up and he doesn’t care whether people are using open or closed models, so long as they’re running on Nvidia hardware.

He's right cuz the market will crash before then

more ai slop and hallucinations. he just wants more circular financing no we need to just make nvda and ai datacenters go bankrupt. no tax subsidies no contracts for them we need to get trump out of office first. make them pay taxes on ai datacenters and subsidize locals for tolerating their datacenters.

at this point nvda is producing NEGATIVE value. almost all ai datacenters are now producing negative value while stealing resources tax and making lives of all worse not better.

more censorship ai bots used to filter real users banning them for their elites that go against their narrative have 1 intern manually un banning people better to make new accounts or leave completely wasting our time and energy and more spam by ai slop that is allowed because they paid the website to spam agendas. all ai is being used is fraud waste abuse. notice meta using ai to generare 15 billion in scam fraud ads last quarter with no penalty.

I guess he missed the memo about this being a PR attempt

So long as one asshole with power takes this route, we're all doomed.

We were lucky that nuclear weapons had more of a barrier to entry than AI. I guess it was just a matter of time before we'd develop a new tech capable of destroying our whole species, which was more accessible

[–] Burn_The_Right@lemmy.today 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Hey, Jensen... Relax with all that security. There's zero chance anyone will assassinate you before 2030. You can go wherever you like without security.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 3 weeks ago

he will probably pass away buried under the unusused ai chips he cant sell in the future.

[–] RattlerSix@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

W...w...wh...what about after 2030?

[–] humanspiral@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

as fast as we can

This does let him sell the most gpus. Must be coincidence.

There are many issues with too fast.

  1. financial crisis from overspending. There is myth that there is GPU capacity shortage. A recent model, Jev, is a low compute cheaper way to do classification

  2. continued scarcity of useful products/ram

  3. end result of government bailing them all out with compute for military and surveillance

  4. ...

  5. Profit from end of world.

I feel like both positions are wrong (and obvious attempts to either make this product more impressive than it currently is or avoid meaningful regulations). There is not currently evidence that LLMs pose such an existential threat to humanity, but that's not to say there won't be.

A much bigger threat as it stands is these companies having such terribly safety processes that their technology keeps acting in unexpected ways. These are not companies that should have a financial stake in energy infrastructure, not to mention the further consolidation of power by these douchebag billionaires.

Nuclear weapons -- and probably some other things i dont even know about -- pose an existential threat to humanity. AI is simply the newest popular technology, every time that happens there's a threat of evil people using it for evil means.

Oh no! He has accidentally produced AI != God sentiment

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 2 points 3 weeks ago

We just won't have a job.

It's hilarious how both AI companies and Nvidia are both going each other's way in "AI progress" when really it's all about their bottom lines.
