- Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
- Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
- Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
- Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
- Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
- Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
- Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
- Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
- First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
- Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
- No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
- Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
- Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Maybe I’m over thinking it or have s poor understanding of economics—but I’m curious where companies think money will come from to buy their products when no one has a job because they’ve been replaced by AI?
The middle class isn't a natural state of things. You have to work at it to maintain a middle class.
Most of these people want to move back to a feudal self set up again. Where 'the economy' is just the nobles and rich merchants trading among each other. They don't actually care if that economy is overall less prosperous, so long as they are one of the big fish in the tinier pond.
So right now we're seeing rich people eat other rich people, fighting over who gets to control the dwindling remains of civilization that will remain after their decisions wreck the world.
Companies don't think.
Employees are thinking "I like my job/it pays the bills/my coworkers are fun/it's an interesting problem/the nerd rapture is here"
Bosses are thinking "This gets me fat stacks"
Investors are thinking "This will get me stupidly fat stacks, and if it causes social problems I won't bear the cost"
Also everyone is thinking "me not doing this just means it happens anyway but I don't benefit"

It’s a hedge fund now and the 40 layers of middle management just need the line to go up. Then they get a bonus and a pat on the back for crushing their KPIs.

I look at things like the car market, where the top end is basically being floated by oil princes, trustfund kids and early crypto investors. Even have mass production companies like Mercedes starting to focus more on "handcrafted limited release" cars they can make 30 of, and flip at a few million each.
The wealthy seem to seriously believe they've amassed enough money at the top that they can sustain the economy without anyone else participating. And unfortunately, it's looking more and more like the data supports this belief.

A lot of folks just make their money because the line goes up, then instead of spending that money they borrow more using their old money (stocks) as collateral. So long as the line goes up those people have basically a continuing stream of income and credit.
