A better world is absolutely possible. We just have to get fucked hard enough that we stop messing it up.
I disagree. A better world might be possible in the short term, but it only takes a few generations to forget the motivation to do so. It's the whole reason history repeats itself.
Anti-vaxers are a great example of this phenomenon. People haven't experienced how horrible stuff like polio is, so it's easy for them to dismiss it as not a big deal.
The biggest issue is that there are people with personality disorders who lust for power at any cost, and they're often charismatic enough to fool enough idiots into going along with them to achieve it.
Add in the fact that most people have no desire to rock the boat as long as they're comfortable, and you have humanity's Great Filter.
Sure, we can throw off the chains, but these people will chip away at it for decades until they can do it again. It's a cycle as old as written history.
Getting fucked hard enough that the world becomes better sounds like the best possible solution I could imagine.
Even if "we're so fucked", we should still let "better the world" power us.
We're so fucked leaves you on the couch giving up, better the world is a place where creative implementation can flourish. Maybe we can't save the globe, but we could creatively torment the people who caused it, (I hold no checks or balances against how far that sentiment is taken). We could still take down whole systems or companies, I feel like the world would be better without them, and I know I'm not alone. There's a million microaggressions to be delt to the self proclaimed elite class whom have gotten us into this mess. They're all incredibly emotionally immature, they wouldn't cope well. Making them feel how they've caused us to feel, is restorative balance.
I choose fight. Even more so if we're fucked.
The arc of the moral universe I keep hearing about.
Mine must be broken and doesn't tilt to the left.
A better world was possible
Maybe it's too political, but we could still make it not completely bad for longer.
