Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

just a reminder that you don’t have to put the entire packet in, that stuff has so much sodium anyways

I won't drink the milk and you can't make me! (>3<)

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 4 days ago (1 children)

its fine <3 I also try avoid milk and probably should switch to a different spice-killer. sweet drinks works surprisingly well.

[–] fyzzlefry@retrolemmy.com 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Acid also helps with heat!

[–] OmegaMouse@pawb.social 6 points 3 days ago

Yeah but I don't want to be tripping for 12 hours each time I eat noodles :(

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 21 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Hurrah, more cooking with Maria!

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 4 days ago (1 children)

just noticed that lots of peeps seem to genuinely not be able to handle the spice and so i thought that this was kinda ... reasonable to put out here. so yeah. mayyyyb this helps someone. making them in a pan helps a lot, having them not be super saucy is also good, fully dry is actually pretty good.

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 7 points 4 days ago

That's so very thoughtful of you :3

Best thing if you've eaten something hot: raw tomato. The small flavourful cherry tomatos or whatever are the best, ordinary tomatos work, but not as well.

I had an advent calendar one year with spicy candies in it. No problem trying out the crazy ones. Just had to make sure to have a few cherry tomatos close by, and the heat was gone in a few seconds. Milk, yogurt or whatever, does nothing in comparison.

[–] glitch1985@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

I read that as spicy candles multiple times and was so confused.

I have these cheap ass mango cherry popsicles I get from the local carneceria. Fantastic after lighting your mouth on fire with capsaicin

Nice!!

This reminded me of Cooking Comically

Just checked it out again and it's way less funny. Oldest stuff was good humor with recipes. New stuff is bland into then recipie.

[–] OryxAndCake@slrpnk.net 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Oh, deep cut, I remember that guy. I wonder if any of those recipes are stuff I'd eat today. clicks link

WTF bro. 2AM CHILI WAS IN 2011?!

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 4 days ago (4 children)

this specifically is for buldak noodles.

[–] KernelTale@programming.dev 7 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

I've recently bought buldak sauces. Carbonara and normal, because I don't really care about what kind of noodles I am eating, so it will end up cheaper. Now my stomach hurts every day, because I put it in so many dishes. Carbonara for when I want to have good food and normal for when I want to have spice-orgasm.

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 4 days ago

I also got the sauces. don't use them much yet... but probably should / will.

I got the 3 pack cuz... to me, black is where its at. carbonara is baby-pinky-hearts for a reason hehe

[–] gegil@sopuli.xyz 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Right now, briefly looking at history of instant noodles, i found out that they was invented and are most popular specifically in east asia, like korea and japan. All this time i was thinking that instand noodles is mostly ukrainian and eastern european food.

They're very popular in north America too, though mostly the Asian varieties.

[–] gegil@sopuli.xyz 4 points 4 days ago

Ok, i didnt know that instant noodles are also popular in korea.

[–] recursive_recursion@piefed.ca 2 points 4 days ago

I had a feeling those noodles and that sauce color looked oddly familiar lol

[–] sunoc@tarte.nuage-libre.fr 7 points 4 days ago

Nice! Now I want shinramyun ><

[–] Phantaminum@lemmy.zip 7 points 4 days ago

I will try it soon!

[–] Denjin@feddit.uk 5 points 4 days ago

Eat them spicy or eat something else, cowards!

[–] EatMyPixelDust@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

But what if I like the pain?

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

then get the 2x spucy ones and just make them directly in a bowl, maybe add extra sauce.

Have you tried 3x spicy? Those are fun.

[–] Zizzy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Is it the stiry fry part that lessens the heat(ignoring the cheese part)? Because i feel like the more water in it feels less hit to me. I usually make any type of instant noodle by draining most of the water at the end just because i like a creamy noodle vs soupy

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 4 days ago

I also like them creamy. however, u add the sauce after the water draining so... ye

for me, when there was more soup in it, it felt way spicier than with almost dry noodles. Buldak sauce clings like crazy to ur mouth and I think that helps.

Kefir > Milk

[–] SeeSmudges@quokk.au 2 points 3 days ago

I haven't been able to find mala seasonings and that hurts me

OH FUCK THAT'S WHAT I WAS SUPPOSED TO DO TODAY

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

I don't know which ones but they don't look like the ones I buy.

Edit: they look good tho

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 4 days ago (2 children)

u probably buy the carbobara ones?

orrrr maybe just an entirely different brand. . Its funny how I assumed "you know which ones" in the post, but apparently many here dont know. its bukdak.

[–] CrimeIsLegalNow@ani.social 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

... People had a real problem with those?

They were alright. Either I'm way more adapted than I thought or there's an actually spicy version people mean.

That's not posturing, it just didn't occur to me that they might have a reputation.

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 3 days ago

the carbonara are easy but the 2x spicy ones are where I get difficulties.

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 2 points 4 days ago

I like the Jin spicy ramen. Been meaning to try the buldak ones too tho.

[–] soyslurper2@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

This is horrible advice. Milk and chilli is a recipe for stomach issues. Please use lemon juice instead

[–] Interstellar_1@piefed.blahaj.zone 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Is this true? Milk does help lessen the extreme heat.

[–] soyslurper2@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 4 days ago

https://health.clevelandclinic.org/does-milk-help-with-spicy-food

If you’re experiencing indigestion after eating something spicy — think acid reflux, a roiling stomach or even ulcers — milk isn’t the hero you need. “Milk can actually worsen those symptoms because it sometimes stimulates acid that then has to be digested, which starts a cycle,” Dr. Rood warns.

If you can drink milk and eat chili without bathroom problems, go ahead. Otherwise, add an acid like lemon juice. These days, I just use spices with less capsaicin.

[–] MxRemy@piefed.social 3 points 4 days ago

Mmmmmm 🤤

[–] caseyweederman@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 days ago

I've got those bowls!

[–] DekSomBoon@lemmy.today 1 points 4 days ago

My partner taught me to add mayo, its actually pretty nice that way
