Yes! They thin out the lining so much that you either have very light or no periods at all. I went through going through super+ tampons in an hour to literally nothing at all (nothing at all, nothing at ALL!)

Serious question: My partner is looking to get one, does it have much of an affect on sex drive generally?
My partner experiences plenty of sex drive with one.
But the first period after she got it lasted weeks.
Then periods became very light. Which was the main draw, to reduce period pain in her case.
That's good!
It killed my wifeβs sex drive. She had it in for about 7 years and I didnβt get sex once in that time. She had to get it out after developing breast cancer and within a month we were having sex again.

Til you don't get periods with IUD. Does it just stop? Does the iud somehow stop the cycle?
IUDs (hormonal ones) thin out your uterine lining to the point where you get little to no bleeding. You still ovulate and go through a βcycle,β you just donβt bleed.
Supposedly it varies from woman to woman. Mine stopped.
Gemini claims the mechanism is that the low dosage of progesterone prevents the uterine lining build up.
