I will buy 128 gigs of ddr5 ram come and take that sam

[–] Pyr_Pressure@lemmy.ca 6 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

These AI CEOs are all so out of touch. They talk like they believe everyone lives in a mansion in can Fransisco with 1000gb/s Internet connection 24/7 and zero down time.

If I had to rely on off-site RAM I would be screwed so so often.

It’s not about the bandwidth. It’s about them charging you for use.

there are other options....

Is it terrible then that I have a kitchen instead of buying all my food from McDonald's?

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 3 points 8 hours ago

If you ask their execs... They'd probably say "yes" and somehow lobby to remove kitchens from new home builds. Lol

This reminds me of the bullshit EA cult ideology.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 day ago

Does this guy think his audience is full of impressionable 3-year olds?

[–] Eternal192@anarchist.nexus 32 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I think it's terrible that there's a tree out there producing air that this bastard is wasting.

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Don't worry, he's working on a method of bottling and distributing air for purchase, so that you can have fresh air in your home or community!

He's partnered with Aloysius O'Hare on it.

(This is a joke. It's a reference to The Lorax by Dr. Seuss)

[–] GodSpeeD808@feddit.nl 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] Eternal192@anarchist.nexus 2 points 1 day ago

That was the work of another bastard.

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

That is a waste but what if that tree (or any tree, really) was used to hang him upside down so he can be beaten with shitty sticks...for a good ten years or so?

Ok, I've had an idea. How about an orchard of trees specifically for all CEO's to be hung from (feet, neck. Your choice) then beaten with shitty sticks?

I mean I could buy an orchard for this, and start up a business of charging people to beat CEOs with shitty sticks.
Hell, I could be the CEO of Shitty Stick Orchard!!

Uh oh...
ok, when I said all CEO's then I didn't mean me!!!

Would be poetic in a really dark way. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Web007rzSOI

We may consider your exemption.

[–] CapuccinoCoretto@lemmy.world 169 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It's quite terrible his body has water.

[–] ExtremeDullard@piefed.social 63 points 1 day ago

I think Scam Altman has gotten high on his own supply. He doesn't even realize the nonsense he spews out anymore.

We should make looting data centers a religion.

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago

Tell us what to do, oh great leader

[–] dephyre@lemmy.world 76 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

C'mon guys, the way you use your ovens is like really inefficient.

Stop buying ovens, let us buy all the ovens. Then whenever you need to cook something come get it from my restaurant instead.

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 45 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I truly hate this motherfucker.

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 1 points 8 hours ago

Him and Mister Beast really out here competing for "Most Soulless, Roundhouse-Kickable Face."

[–] skozzii@lemmy.ca 41 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I have 96gb of ram in my pc for no real reason,I hope he loses sleep over this.

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 1 points 8 hours ago

64 here. It was for large Blender scenes but retroactively I'm happy to say it was just to piss him off.

[–] Zephorah@discuss.online 53 points 1 day ago

Good job, Lemmy. We all had this end game nailed down well before he admitted it.

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

He's not wrong, just completely fucking tonedeaf.

Ok, yea, sure, from a resource allocation perspective, it does make the most sense to centralize power. Having one giant system running at 80% is more efficient than having a thousand small systems running at 20%. This is why we virtualize servers.

The problem is, we want and need our RAM for more things than having conversations with your "brain"-washed hallucinating spy-bots.

[–] just_an_average_joe@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Yes one centeralized system running php is the way to go.

[–] JustVik@lemmy.ml 2 points 20 hours ago

Only lisp on one centralized gigant lisp-machine.

[–] KeenFlame@feddit.nu 1 points 23 hours ago (2 children)
[–] artwork@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Sorry, but telling something is "wrong" without any "correct" alternative is questionable, too.
As if, how are we sure it's not trolling if no actual evidence/reference is stated by just "wrong"?

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 6 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

...sigh...it seems people think that I'm siding with Sham Faultman here. I'm not.

There are, however, absolutely benefits to consolidating tech. Lots of them. Far better compute/watt and compute/dollar. Like...significantly. It makes a lot of sense for businesses to consolidate into VMs on a handful of large clustered servers, as opposed to running a bazillion pizza boxes each doing one thing.

There are also drawbacks to consolidating tech. Lots of them. Probably chief anong them being privacy and ownership of data. And that's a big thing.

Every day these assholes are around brings us closer to floating in tanks as batteries to feed their vision.

It's a terrible idea to keep all those electrical impulses to yourself.

[–] My_IFAKs___gone@lemmy.world 28 points 1 day ago

Well it's quite terrible for the world to have Sam Altman, but here we are.

[–] MyOpinion@lemmy.today 32 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Says the person with vast amounts of ram.

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

As every rich person, he's simply very eager to share.

[–] inari@kbin.earth 6 points 1 day ago

For a price

[–] minorkeys@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 day ago

CPU capabilities are more powerful today than ever. They think it's terrible that you have that power without getting it through them.

[–] dudeface@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago

Will be quite terrible when your funding collapses, seems to be underway

I just hope people remember the Judas companies that chose the AI market over consumer

[–] ObsidianFlux@fedinsfw.app 16 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Is this guy mentally ill or something or has too much money and publicity gone to his head? Saying people don't need RAM in computers? I mean, if he's got a better and cheaper solution, then bring it to the world stage - maybe it could actually benefit humanity, who knows. But if you don't stop spewing nonsense just for publicity, media attention, and a stock market boost...

Money can't buy brain cells, so you don't need to worry about losing any.

And

Water is wet, so you don't need to drink it.

[–] lath@lemmy.world 33 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He's hinting at owning nothing and subscribing to cloud streaming.

"Hey, we got all the hardware. Pay us exorbitant fees and we'll do all the heavy lifting for you."

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"you want your computer to do something? tell us, our computer will do it, and then you can pay us in addition to paying for your computer"

[–] snoons@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

also you can't use your computer for anything we don't want you to use it for.

"and my butt smells, and I like to kiss my own butt."

[–] Zephorah@discuss.online 18 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

It’s about endgame, which holds so much real estate in his head it likely did not occur to him to say anything but the truth on this.

You will own nothing and like it.

Basically, you spend more earnings on yet another monthly payment to have these assholes do your heavy computing tasks for you. More wealth siphon from poor to rich. More monitoring, less privacy. And most of all, remove the possibility of your own home bred AIs on your machines.

End game with data centers is to end home computing.
