I highly suggest Thundermail (tb.pro) if you wanna switch to a libre email provider. Mozilla hosts stalwart and their own libre mail client for you, along with providing 15 mail aliases and 3 custom domains, for a small price. I have been using it as my daily since past few months. I haven't found any bugs despite it being in beta.

I signed up yesterday. Really liking it so far but I'm still messing around with it. Do you have your app synced? I'm trying to figure out if I can change the settings on one PC and have them affect another PC/phone without exporting.

[–] GlowingDeer@infosec.pub 1 points 43 minutes ago (1 children)

Thunderbird application settings being client side, have a separate sync design, unrelated to thundermail. I don't remember whether they finished it, but I do remember they were working on a sync feature.

[–] imminent_nebula@lemmy.ca 1 points 41 minutes ago

Got it. I suppose Thundermail is new so they're still working on things.

I feel like a good rule of thumb for Andy to say something, seemingly publicly or privately, is to just take a breath and then shut the fuck up instead. It seems like nothing he ever says brings comfort and confidence to his company's users.

Too late Andy. You are not going to be part of the tech overlord aristocracy, no matter how much you simp now.

Maybe it's a good thing for you. May avoid the the french doctor's invention that way.

Some people should just never hold any sort of power. Most people shouldn't, but some motherfuckers in particular.

The original 404 Media article.

404 Media is a great publication with a strong track record. They are worth paying for.

When someone shows you who they really are, believe them the first time. And sadly, this is who Proton is right now, this guy. And this is who the Proton board is, people who support this guy and his vision.

This is proton. Shop accordingly.

[–] Wimster@lemmy.wtf 14 points 3 hours ago

This guy sounds like a Mini Musk and I hate Musk.

[–] glibg@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

As much as I think this Andy fellow is a douche, I appreciate Proton is encrypting all my stuff, which is still way better than gmail. For that, I will continue paying for the service. It's just so much work to switch over email - I don't want to have to do it again.

[–] designated_fridge@lemmy.world 9 points 2 hours ago

I mean it only matters if the person you communicate with is also on Proton. All correspondence you have with anyone using Outlook/Gmail will still allow Microsoft/Google to read your emails

[–] qaz@lemmy.world 12 points 4 hours ago

Never used them because their software wasn't open source, and thus meant I would be unable to switch to another provider. Seems I made the right choice.

Tutamail is great for mails

[–] CrossingtheAbyss@lemmy.today 2 points 2 hours ago

I've been using Zoho for over a decade now for nearly all my transactions. Gmail comes in handy for account related things. For web subscriptions that matter zero to me if hacked I use proton.

[–] imminent_nebula@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

I just switched to custom domains and Thundermail

[–] ComradeRachel@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

I recently switched to a custom domain and it’s probably the best 12 bucks a year to spend. If you ever have to switch email providers for whatever reason it’s super easy because the domain is yours and you just need to update DNS records to your new email provider rather than updating your email address on tons of separate sites

[–] imminent_nebula@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 hour ago

Absolutely. I'm kicking myself for not doing it when I moved to Proton in the first place but I didn't know much about this stuff and needed an easy switch.

Additionally the other bonus to migrating from Proton is diversifying. Now if one company enshittifies it only affects one account.

What are you using for your domain emails?

Everyone go vote at their feedback website. There are several posts in the General Suggestions section that suggest Andy Yen step down. Mark them as critical.

He's literally why I never signed up with Proton. Bullett dodged.

[–] Yerbouti@sh.itjust.works 10 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Same, and a got a lot of downvote for saying I didn't trust them. Custom domain + 1Tb nextcloud is my jam and really not that expensive.

[–] ducktumn@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 hours ago

Is it selfhosted

[–] Tja@programming.dev 5 points 4 hours ago

Same here. I am really getting tired of managing my exim4 setup, but since he made the trump comments I didn't trust him or proton by extension.

[–] stateofaffairs@lemmy.today 28 points 6 hours ago (3 children)

I am, once again, offering to take over as CEO of Proton.

My work focuses on nonprofit-stakeholder-government relations. Specifically how organizations mediate between state agencies and stakeholders. No agenda beyond aligning mission, vision, and values, and keeping it that way.

Reach out if you prefer that to help guide Proton somewhere other than the trash bin of distrust.

Huzzah! I'm getting more votes than I ever did for school government!

Your confidence in my abilities is both recognized and appreciated.

I've heard enough. If I was on the board, you'd have my vote. ✅

Thank you virtual non-board member!

[–] QuandaleDingle@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

You're welcome. 🤝🏾

It's a bit surprising how many CEO's express disdain for their users and employees.

When employees are reduced to an "input resource" number on a spreadsheet, and they sit insulated from user complaints, and likely surround themselves with sycophants, I suppose it's inevitable.

Power corrupts, you can see it all around us once you start looking.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 34 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

Power corrupts, you can see it all around us once you start looking.

Yes, but also the corporate world has a nasty tendency to promote psychopaths to CEO positions because they think a lack of humility is the same as competence.
