I hate to be that guy, but I hate seeing Lemmy sliding down this hill even more.
But it’s not AI or deepfake and the people on Lemmy spreading this really need to go back to Reddit.

Edit: specified I’m referencing my own comment
Edit2: the post has finally been removed. This was my explanation
It’s not just the fadecut as you call it. This video is highly processed and not just a recording of trump with some errors taken out. And the real question is why is it so highly processed and why is that being accepted?
To be fair, we’ve been warned and trained about deep fake AI (I just took training at work on this today), so I’m not surprised if people genuinely don’t believe a video is real.
That’s ignoring all the people that just shout “FAKE” because they can, as well as those people who really believe everything is fake regardless.
We entered ai witch hunting era
This AI paranoia is exhausting and annoying, i agree with you. not every glitch means something is AI; and tbh, at the speed this is developing people wont be able to spot AI videos or images in a few years, so why bother? just keep in the back of your mind that not everything you see on the web is authentic.
I agree , this is not AI
For the context of anyone reading this comment, this is the relevant snippet of video people are referencing as their evidence for this video being AI. It's a couple of links deep from OP's link, and I think having it here helps.
Also he linked his own comment explaining why this isn't AI, which while not intrinsically dishonest, is important to note. This isn't someone who read the comment and was convinced spreading it further, it is just a person signal boosting their take.
No it doesn’t help. The opposite. Focussing on the hands alone is taking it further out of context. Having the context of the full video with audio and the trees in the background, that would have helped. Intentionally or not, your comment is pushing people to the AI narrative.
You are free to update the comment with whatever context you think is necessary, I included the snippet of video most of the discussion was about; I apologize for not including a snippet that included the change in the trees in the back of the shot as well. The included clip does have a weird morph on the sleeve in the left half of the screen that is also implies either an edit or artificial video.
I think the reason people are so quick to believe this is a generated video is because the current administration has already openly and willingly been spreading AI generated content including Trump. This doesn't feel like a stretch, particularly in the wake of his highly publicized absence from the public eye.
