Were the Virginia planters keeping sex slaves capitalists though? Most of the capitalists at the time were up north where slavery was illegal by the founding.
Doesn't living in luxury while building wealth on the labor of others count as capitalism?
Not by itself, agrarian slavery is different from industrial wage labor under private owners.
