Let's keep reframing the same joke, I'll do a shaggy dog:

The massive musculature of bears is no match for the steel instruments used by veterinary dentists. Despite objections from animal rights advocates to the use of powerful topical anesthetics on animals already being held in captivity, studies show that the alternative options fare far worse. If these medicines were not used on the animals they would rip their teeth out trying to escape the pain of the procedures. Alternatively, old bears in the wild often decline and die partly due to tooth wear and loss. It's actually one of the natural causes of death in aging bears, since they can no longer feed efficiently, especially as they enter hyperphagia preceding hibernation. This all goes to show you that there's safe teeth in numb bears.
