Also, custom firmware like GrapheneOS can stop supporting your device at any time. They're under no obligation to support your phone.

And this tribalism isn't a good look for anybody. Just use what makes you happy. Or what you can afford. Or what you have. There's no better way to say you made poor choices and are unhappy about that than to shame people for using a different product than you do.

It's more like being astounished that someone would choose an option that is clearly inferior when a better alternative exists. Like choosing reddit over lemmy.

So when you saw a phone made by an advertising company and a phone by a computer company, you chose to support the advertising company because you could wipe the phone, void the warranty, and install custom firmware with no guarantees? Wild. Cool, but wild.

I used Android phones for a while when I couldn't get an iPhone because of where I lived. But when I could get an iPhone, I got one and never looked back. I also have an older Android phone and it does a couple things my iPhone doesn't. It's smaller, it's lighter, it has a better keyboard, it has Firefox with uBlock Origin, it has an SD card in it with like 55GB of music... oh and it's Animal Crossing themed inside and out because why not, because you can do that with Android. It doesn't have cell service though. Not that I'd mind using it as my main.

But anyway, I'd rather have a phone by a computer company than an advertising company. I get why people like Android. I like Android. But this tribalism is weird. Do you bully people for their phone use IRL? Does anyone take you seriously? I bet not. I bet you just act big on the Internet. Does anyone even take you seriously online? Like the Jurassic Park meme. "Look, a bully on the Internet!" *gestures at everyone* "See? No one cares."
