Is there any place that even lets you know that your blood has been used and who received it? That seems needlessly risky.

That's a HIPAA violation in the US. It's a huge mistake. Hospitals lose cases in the millions over one.

Where I am, you get a message when it's been used, but obviously not any identifying information.

Also I have absolutely no way of knowing if the message is legit or they just tell you that a random time after your donation regardless just to make you feel good and donate again.

I could see the point in that. Here you don't even know if the donated blood will be used for research or for life saving operations.

Not in my country. I just give blood, get free chocolate and a day off work, that's all that matters to me.
