Don't forget about present failures. In Russia, you still can't be gay and talk openly about it.
Present Russia is not socialist or communist so I don't see how this is relevant?

What countries would you consider Marxists-Leninist?
In the modern day, the PRC, Cuba, DPRK, Vietnam, and Laos are all Marxist-Leninist or juche socialist.

Meanwhile, the top court of China is taking an affirmative stance that gender and sexuality must be protected characteristics. China is moving forward, not backwards, with respect to queer representation. Meanwhile, many western countries are falling.
