there are people who think asexuals arent queer??

[–] Grail@multiverse.soulism.net 18 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah, they argue that mechanisms of queerphobic oppression act only along the axis of punishing people for doing gay sex, and since asexuals don't (usually) have gay sex, asexuals are not affected by queerphobic oppression and cannot claim queerness.

Anyway I spent years as a kid being told that one day I would be interested in sex and romance. Funny thing - those people turned out to be right in the end, but I don't talk to them anymore because they're the same people who are upset that I take estrogen pills and had My penis surgically removed. Yet both of those things increased My desire for sex and romance and I'm much happier having done them! Anyway I remember all the allonormativity I experienced in My childhood and early adulthood and it makes My blood boil. There's a good reason why aces, aros, and agenders make up most of the voidpunk (reclaiming inhumanity as fashion) movement, and it has a lot to do with the way we're told that we're missing the thing that makes everyone else human.

One of my coworkers is ace and absolutely doesn't consider himself queer.
