Isn't that like saying all Americans are evil because our president is a piece of trash?

[–] subOrange@lemmy.world 43 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Well, yes, thanks for the reminder!

Ey guys, before you go buying or using some USA software, make sure they don’t support or have ties with the Trump administration!

[–] Bohne93@feddit.org 28 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Fun fact, the US was already a warmongering shit stain long long before trump.

[–] SarahValentine@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Fun fact, so was every other nation in the world that ever fancied itself important enough to compete with others. America is just the latest bully to come out on top.

Well yeah, since its conception. Idk how much my perception of when Europeans became "Americans" is synonymous with historians, but.. After the Europeans vastly destroyed the American population and took the name for themselves, Americans used violence to secede from English command. Iirc it was started by a plainclothes soldier shooting a soldier, starting a massacre.

I have been boycotting american products since they voted a pedo in office.

[–] GMac@feddit.org 8 points 5 days ago

You ae not alone.

Regardless of your actual politics, we're still funding MAGA shit because we're too poor to dodge our taxes. So I fully support people boycotting American businesses, same as with any business based in other countries doing evil shit.

[–] Takapapatapaka@tarte.nuage-libre.fr 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I know i'm fully nitpicking in bad faith here, but which are the countries not doing evil shit ? There probably are a few that are mostly good, but even those are quite rare, aren't they ?

[–] TallonMetroid@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

shrugs The various Pacific island nations probably don't have any fuckery going on, even if only because they lack the ability. Or if they do, they're too small to be obvious about it, which I'll admit is probably as good as it gets.

No. you made a jump from not knowing a stance of a single person to attributing evil to an entire nation.

[–] Viceversa@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Because need to know the stance of a single person implies attributing evil to his whole nation.

[–] ms_lane@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago (2 children)

The majority of you voted for him, so it's fair to assume a majority of you are like him, yes.

[–] totally_human_emdash_user@piefed.blahaj.zone 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Wrong; not everyone voted, and of those who did, only a bit under half voted for him (given that there were also candidates from other parties), so he did not get a majority.

Furthermore, pretty much the moment he entered office and actually started doing things, his approval ratings plummeted, so it is not correct to assume that the majority of us are "like him"; it would be more fair to say that he tricked a large number of people into thinking that he was someone different than he was. (Mind you, I think that these people were fools who should have known better, but that is a different kind of flaw.)

100% agree. Among other things, the reaction of foreign people to American citizens in the wake of MAGA crimes is one of the goals of "manufactured consent". We didn't consent to this, but the powers that be have made it look like we did, not only to other Americans but to the rest of the world, isolating us and making their crimes harder to stop.

*the majority of old idiots voted for him
