"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"
A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.
AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

AI is just an assisting technology, and that’s it. There’s no point to break a sweat over Intellectual Property and other theoretical (non-enforceable) “if” scenarios.
Mechanics cannot be copyrighted, period. If a certain function is achievable by code, you cannot copyright it.
If the code happens to be used in a private code base, sucks to be them. Good luck trying to lawsuit EU countries as an American business. Or better yet, good luck in lawsuits against Asian companies - I’m sure they’ll take you seriously!
If something is publicly available on the Internet, then it’s not private anymore. You have to live with that fact. Ever shared something embarrassing online? It’s going to live on the Internet forever now. Same goes for code.
Intellectual Property is sometimes a meme. It only applies in very specific scenarios where you can apply a patent or other protection, sure, but it still doesn’t guarantee the world will take it seriously, because guess what… The world is not under jurisdiction of the United States (which happens to be very fond of its patents).
Stay safe out there, AI is just a helper, and let it remain that way. Let the others worry about security of their own code, rather than skimping on salaries for cybersecurity professionals who would otherwise secure them against their code leaking to the public domain.
