I hope it's only rendered on close-ups? Not gonna waste performance on minuscle details you don't see normally.
Afaik, the ingame model has no facial hair at all. It's only on the box art.
You’re also looking at the back of Aloy’s head while you play and focusing on the giant robot trying to eat you so it’s not really something you see anyway
Things like that are usually photo mode or cinematic only. Things where you can either expect the player to not notice mild latency, and you can turn off the rest of the universe except for what's on screen.
Games are shockingly good at hiding absolutely everything that doesn't need to be sent to the render system.
