Community rules (click to expand)

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry of any kind will not be tolerated. This is an LGBTQ+-friendly community -- if that is a problem for you, you should leave.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
  • Don't come looking for advice, this is not the right community.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves / tolerates / hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.

Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't remove France.

Ironic that this post is in itself being toxic to people that enjoy the titles mentioned.

I enjoy cod and lol and even Fortnite but cannot play them on Linux. I’m sad that I can’t enjoy the things that I enjoy. I still play league on my MacBook but it’s annoying having to switch systems for one game. I would love to be able to play ** any ** game of my choosing and not be harassed about it.

Try getting help for trivial Linux issues and you have a 50/50 chance of having a Linux elitist eat you alive for not already knowing what they know. RTFM and scoffing.

Linux has the same toxic ratio of users that the games this post is pointing out.

The reason those games aren't on Linux is because of horrendous security overreach, and if they did work it would mean something, somewhere has been compromised in order to make that possible. I'm thankful they don't work because the last thing I want is for game devs to have kernel-level access to my machine so they can dictate what I'm allowed to do on my computer.

I don't think that's what the user is asking for though. I read it as wishing that the games didn't have those security requirements, so that they could play the games on Linux.

The joke in the meme isn't "thank you to Linux maintainers for not compromising security", its a joke about those games themselves.

Also their point about toxicity is valid, and I've found that it varies by distro. Without being specific, in case I just had a bad experience, some support communities were very hostile to users asking questions. If the new person didn't phrase their question perfectly, using all the correct terminology, the support person refused to answer the question. It was a thread of "You said X, but X actually means Y, so I don't understand your question. Did you mean Z", when it is obvious from context what they meant.

As an ex league addict I do think that league makes people worse and I hope Riot's CEO will hang.
