Yes, this is true. But, those numbers do not include:

  • water required for Chip/GPU production
  • the fact that datacenters are often build in areas with already little water

AI data centers are currently consuming 550 million gallons of water per day

I don't see a date at OPs data. But still the basic assumption holds.

Scrolled through the article, found this:

So they're paid off by big tech to push whataboutism about AI data center water use.

EDIT: They're literally citing themselves about the water usage claims!🤣
