I cannot confirm this. I call on old.reddit.com roughly once a day (whenever I want to see something on reddit) and it never requires login. Not today either.
Could this be a regional thing?
They're rolling it out piecemeal. I don't think they've rolled it out to the UK yet, for example, because I can see both old and new interfaces without it requesting a login, but clearly it's requiring login for some people, somewhere.
VPN all over the US and I have not gotten the loggin popup either. I'm sure that will change though...
