Reddit is still a massive social media platform, it's corporatized and bot ridden but it's still huge.
There are whole generations of young people jumping on it only knowing it for what it is now and not what it was.
It's still a place to "anonymously" comment on and share media.

That's very true, for now.
At this moment Reddit is existing on its former reputation. There are a host of like internet megalithic platforms that are now not even distant memories. Once they outlive their former utility they fade pretty quickly. Think of MySpace, Friendster and Yahoo Groups. Even Facebook is circling the plughole, but it may take a while before disappearing due to its former dominant position.
Another post said facebook has 3 billion MAU, reddit 800M iirc, they can hold out for a while as they circle. I don't think they are going to disappear anytime soon.
I agree, they will continue to exist on momentum for a good long while. I wonder though, how many of those MAU are really just bots?
Hopefully I stays true for a long time.
The moment Lemmy gets too popular it will come under the microscope of Chat Control/Social Media Age limits.
Federation might save us, but it could easily go the other way and federation itself becomes a target.
I think I went to Reddit at first because of what it was, I watched a lot of Reddit "reading" videos for a while so decided to join myself, but the Reddit I wanted to join was already gone by the time I actually did join, then it got worse until I didn't want to take it anymore, the AI got added, then the Games, that was the final straw I think.
sports, music, movies, and relates sub is huge on there.
