Let all Canadian Companies that are doing business with America move to the United States, immediately. Many of them are Companies that moved out years ago due to stupid U.S. Leadership. When you move back, there are no TARIFFS! President DONALD J. TRUMP

So the effects of the tariff, not the tariff itself.

Correct. Except when writing for legal and scientific purposes, most people are imprecise with language and you have to infer what they actually meant. This is a completely normal part of communication, though it comes more naturally for neurotypicals.

Or maybe their president is a dumbass who lies all the time. Maybe.

It's not useful to pretend to misunderstand people because you don't like them.

[–] k0e3@lemmy.ca 4 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

It's also useless to protect a pedophile president who is lying about not having tariffs once in the US.

If Jeffry Epstein's best friend says the sun will rise tomorrow, nobody is protecting him when they say you seem dumb as hell for acting like you don't understand he means the sun will only appear to rise and is infact caused by the earth rotating instead of the sun literally changing its altitude.

[–] k0e3@lemmy.ca 4 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Except "the sun will rise" is an actual expression and "there are no tariffs" is absolutely NOT the same thing as "you won't suffer the consequences from the tariffs" and it's not how it's common speak that neurotypicals find it easy to understand. It's just wrong.

I'm not trying to misunderstand. I only mentioned it because he kept saying Canada will pay for the tariffs in the past even though it is the citizens that have to pay for it. He does it all the time to mislead his base or he sincerely doesn't understand how tariffs work. As a president of a country, no matter how much of a shithole, you'd think speaking clearly would be a baseline requirement.

The relevant info for the companies is "If manufacture in America, you won't have to pay the tariff", the alternative, literal interpretation you insist he means, but is lying about, "If companies manufacture in America, we will stop tariffing Canada" is nonsensical enough that anyone who is neurotypical would immediately understand only the first meaning. This isn't one of the many examples of 'the peace president' who started a war with Iran lying, this is just you being intentionally or unintentionally obtuse.

Except even that statement would likely not be true unless all of your materials can be sourced domestically within the US.

As there are few countries without tariffs in the US, moving your manufacturing there would actually increase the amount of tariffs you are paying instead of reducing. No matter which way you look at it, his statement is incorrect and as the other commenter noted, it's either on purpose to mislead his base, or simply the result of his lack of understanding of how tariffs actually work.

I guess I hold politicians to a higher (still very low) standard than you. That's on me.
