He spoke well at Davios, then seems to have failed in every negotiation with the us. He totally caved on the digital services tax. What did it get us?
I don't see how he's super skilled as a diplomat
How do you "succeed at negotiating" with a country that is demanding you give up your sovereignty and allow then to do whatever they want? One whose leadership can't accept the concept of a mutually beneficial result?
A very skilled diplomat would know how to do that would they not?
I agree the job he's attempting to do is very difficult. The negotiation terms were so obviously unacceptable that maybe we shouldn't have given up the digital services tax? Maybe we shouldn't have immediately caved?
It's true that lack of capitulation on these things would have now looked to have brought about the unacceptable terms, but we would be exercising that sovereignty.
My point wasn't that he should have accepted the terms, but that a "super skilled diplomat" would have achieved more.
Unless they are also a skilled criminal psychologist, I doubt there's a way to get to an acceptable outcome with Trump's gang of liars and thieves.
Canada's position and reputation has improved, but that is just because of how fucking HATED the US and Trump is right now.
right, maybe not because carney so skilled, but more because he's seen as against trump?
I wanted to write this about Carney (who I voted for) I do not like him at all. I do not the degradation of freedoms, benefits, and democracy and increased surveillance that he is pushing for.
But that being said. I do not envy his position. He is perpetually caught between a rock and a hard place. As much as I hate Trump, the only thing I would hate more is actually being forced to deal with the guy. Carney did a lot of concessions that I do not approve of, but I honestly do not have a concrete plan for what to do.
