The people in charge are, to put it in terms trump would understand, completely retarded. What I don't understand is where the checks and balances they swore kept the government running are. I haven't seen a single check or balance that has any effect yet, where the fuck are they? Was it always a lie?

Republicans have a trifecta, and a 6-3 scotus majority.

And now is when we find out that the checks and balances were always more of an honor-system than your government teacher would have you believe.

the checks and balances

Once the checks clear, their balances reflect it.

Oh, you meant different checks and different balances. Never mind.

They were gonna send every dumbass a 1776 check... so... but yeah they didn't do that either

Honestly, I'd completely phased this word out of my vocabulary, but describing MAGA admins are the one time I will use it. It's the only thing that accurately describes them. Elon wanted to bring it back so badly, why not use it to tell him what friendless retard he actually is.

I use dumbass.

You don’t need to use slurs.

[–] sigmaklimgrindset@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You're not wrong. But for some reason any MAGA I talk to gets more riled up about being called that than a loser, a fascist, a Nazi, or anything else.

Maybe it's petty of me, but I'm also pretty done with them calling me a sand n-word for having slightly tanned skin in the summer.

[–] markon@lemmy.world 1 points 20 hours ago

Also, I like brown skin myself. Very attractive. White people roasting like a turkey on a tanning bed getting wrinkled as hell as they smoke endless cigs? 🤮 Yet the tanners are often racists too. Its like... Really? You wanna look more brown but you're racist!? Wtf lol

[–] shartgargle@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I generally agree. And I never use the word anymore, but I get where they're coming from. Personally I wouldn't say it cause it gives them permission to say it as well, and they'll abuse it til it's lexicon again. So personally I'd rather use loser, stupid or any of the other words that also describe them.

However I'm sure in person, arguing with a MAGAt would piss me off to the point of saying it. That's why I just openly disregard these people off the cuff. Roll my eyes and move on. Like what they're saying isn't even worth reacting to because it's so beneath me.

The other question I have is, who leverages that word against anyone who has a medical disability or something? Like, I've never heard anyone call someone with Down Syndrome or autism, etc. a retard. Unless they were doing something retarded and they didn't know, but, I've never seen it leveled against a person with a disability. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Also though, I feel like language policing when we literally have fascists throwing people into concentration camps that maybe that's not top priority.

[–] shartgargle@lemmy.zip 2 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Ehhh it did used to happen. And it didn't have to be someone with debilitating issues as strong as down syndrome or autism. Back in the 90's everyone from dyslexics to down syndrome, to people with social anxiety were called retarded. Even a simple idea got called retarded if it wasn't the norm.

That being said, people who throw people in concentration camps shouldn't be called retarded. They should be curb-stomped.

Calling someone with down syndrome a retard is a slur. Calling someone who's acting like a retard, aka just being stupid, slow, limited, whatever, who's not medically handicapped in any way, not disabled. They can be a retard. It's not nice to call disabled people names. People who are theoretically not disabled. Being extremely stupid, short-sighted, sometimes evil. I think that's a fair word to use. It's a slur, but it really depends who you're slurring as to whether it is meaningfully a slur that we should avoid using.
