Most of them. I assume they also have some well-traveled food snobs that make fun of it when their friends suggest it.

if I make them at home, but i'm white, does that make them automatically non-authentic? do i have to be a 5'2" mexican grandma living in poverty to make them taste extra good?

Great question.

If your dark enough you may just be able to pass as Mexican. I'm half Chinese and that seems to be good enough for a lot of people to guess that I'm Mexican.

If your white white you may need some extra steps for True Authenticity (TM). You should probably buy whole corn kernels directly from a fair trade farm in Yucatan and hand grind it in a traditional mortar and pestel. If you don't get blisters, it won't taste right.
