This came across as a bit harsh. The blogpost explaining the new naming strategy seemed to make sense to me at the time. Did I miss something?

Yes it's a bit crass but not overly.

The Jellyfin team took a page from Microsoft's playbook and skipped a major version number (v11) with the release of v12 this week (...)
