I don't like that they asked an LLM to graphic design the entire menu, but why in the name of robot jesus did they look at the result and say "great. Love it. Print 100 copies."
The food pictures made me physically ill. They're really upsetting! I told the Waitress, who agreed that the pics were awful, and the manager/owner(?) who didn't seem to care.
There are LLM inconsistencies all over, too, like icons changing from page to page.
It's so strange. I think if I were to try to slop out food pictures, I could probably do better than this. I have a promotional free Gemini pro subscription for a bit, so out of curiosity, I prompted it to generate a photo of an omelet, sausage and hash browns, and what it produced looks like a photo of perfectly normal, real food and nothing like this. Why does this keep happening with restaurants? Is there some large scale service offering to modernize menus and signage for almost nothing to business owners who simply can't tell? I can only imagine this was printed without ever being reviewed by a real person after being generated by something that is far removed from the state of the art.
These pictures are probably a few clacker generations old. Probably around the Will Smith spaghetti generation.
If I had to guess, the outsourced the entire thing to a “gig” “design” platform like Fiverr. The work is done by people in impoverished nations who can’t afford anything that isn’t free, because the whole contract including iterations was probably $10-20.
I read somewhere that if your ask to do it step by step as you did the results are not so bad, but users are so lazy that they ask it to do the whole menu at the same time. Even lazier is to see that result and think it is good enough
It's just a fundamental misunderstanding of why menu photos even exist.
It isn't to show people a generic representation of what bacon and eggs might look like. It's supposed to show what your bacon and eggs looks like you fucking dolts
