I have to disagree.
Its more realistic to a medieval fantasy setting for marriage to be that way. Historically the upper class essentially did control who could get married, so they could use it to their ends, and were more bigoted than the lower classes - so gay marriage wouldn't have been a thing even if gay relationships themselves were generally well tolerated in the rest of society.
If Anon had any hang-ups from the players trying to overthrow the upper class to legalise gay marriage (aside from the players completely derailing their campaign), then they could've just stopped the session and not let the players even try it.
Having the Lich come at the end is really just the DM getting their own back on the players for refusing to engage with the actual campaign.
it's dragons and magic and wizards and shit.... what part of realistic medieval are you talking about?.... You're telling me, we can have eldritch gods and sorcerers and shit.... but a man loving another man is too world breaking for your "historically accurate" narative?........
being "no gays" in a fantasy is a DM choice.... and doing the whole "but muh realism" is a tired cop out.... plz stop.
They explicitly said that gay people are tolerated, which requires there to be gay people. They also said that straight people aren't marrying for love either.
Firstly, it IS the DM's choice what setting they choose. If they want to mesh a realistic medieval aristocracy with dragons, wizards, etc., then that's their decision. If you don't like a DM's world-building choices, you can always take your dice to another table.
Unless they DM is discriminating against the actual players, then they're entitled to tell whatever story they like - and its up to the players if they want to sit there and play it out.
You're acting like the DM stood with their head high holding a straight pride flag or something while shouting at the player for even daring to ask about gay marriage, rather than clarifying the marriage system of their setting.
Secondly, again, if the DM was truly a homophobic bigot as you keep saying - do you think they'd have continued going along with the player's conquest to legalize gay marriage in the kingdom?
If they were truly a bigot and hated the idea of legalized gay marriage in their setting, they are equally as entitled to walk away from the table as all the other players are. Yet they stayed, narrated, and played out the whole thing - even though it meant watching their campaign essentially be overridden by something they weren't as interested in.
Expecting a DM to build their setting based around what you think is acceptable, and calling them bigoted if they don't, comes across as entitled to me (which is ironic considering you're the one talking about red-flags).

Yes I did repeat your point back at you, because I don't understand how you can acknowledge that DM Anon is clearly okay with gay marriage, hence allowing their campaign to be derailed for the explicitly purpose of legalising it within the setting, and then still call them a bigot at the same time for daring to depict a setting that has disagreeable morals for the sake of their immersion and storytelling.
People are dogpiling you because you rode in on your own high-horse pulling an absolute trash take from your backside.
