I mean AI is definitely helping.
LLMs are not AI. Actual AI is done with extremely finely tuned models purpose built for very specific scenarios. I highly doubt they are using ChatGPT or the like to advance cancer research.
By the sounds of this article, which has very few useful details, they have incorporated a model trained on their previous research to assist in speeding up new research by codifying that knowledge to be used with other processing platforms/tools.
This is not even kind of what the comic here is depicting.
We do this a lot for manufacturing where you have models trained to monitor factory lines or steps in manufacturing materials where they assist in spotting defects early or help fine tune recipes based on a whole host of variables.
LLMs are a subset of AI. Or, to be precise, a subset of neural networks/deep learning, which is a subset of machine learning, which is a subset of AI.
Thanks I do this for work and there is a clear line to demarcate true AI vs an LLM which is largely not trained to make decisions in the way i am describing. What an unnecessary comment to make.
