I don't live in a place like that, but I've passed quite a few in my life and generally I will see the mailbox next to the street in those cases. Sometimes if it is a very small community with very long drives all the mailboxes are together near the entrance, like you often see in apartment complexes. Did you ever try to move the mailbox to be at the driveway entrance?
