When I was getting my tyres replaced last year, the waiting room at the shop was playing an endless stream of a.i. generated music - they used to play actual music. After an hour of that I wanted to kill myself. It's just stuff to fill the silence. I guess there's a market for it among the likewise soulless.

Ian Bogost had a nice essay about that last year:

what may now be the most successful AI group on Spotify is merely, profoundly, and disturbingly innocuous. In that sense, it signifies the fate of music that is streamed online and then imbibed while one drives, cooks, cleans, works, exercises, or does any other prosaic act. Long before generative AI began its takeover of the internet, streaming music had turned anodyne—a vehicle for vibes, not for active listening.

Personally I disagree. Listening to deeply moving music turns even the dullest task into an adventure.
