In that case I think you might be an outlier
I have only anecdotal evidence to offer, but it is the opposite of your annecdotal experience. I have two large friend groups in two different locations.
In one of these groups there are zero AI fanatics, and about 2 or 3 who use it casually without thinking about it. This group is about 30-40 people.
In the other group I’m in has no one who uses it casually, but there are 2 AI fanatics (who also both work in the AI industry). This group is closer to 20 people total.
At my work there are about 30 employees, one of whom was a former fanatic, but is now just a casual user after realizing he was being lied to about AIs capabilities.
I’m just about middle aged tho, so I suppose there would likely be different saturation levels in different age groups.
Definitely possible, my social group is college and adjacent, mainly liberal arts and computer science students and occasionally staff. Perhaps that's why I see so many AI people.
And thanks for sharing, it's always interesting to peek how different life outside of your bubble can be in ways you can't even imagine.
