PQ plans to hold a referendum on independence after Trump leaves office, but it is unclear if all voters support that idea

PQ is on really thin ice, their current number of seats even in minority is precarious. They won 3 or so of them by a few hundred votes and they aren't closely behind in enough places to make a majority.

Liberals and Conservatives have way more comfortable margins than polls would have given them. If the CAQ vote truely evaporates, virtually none of it is going PQ.

It would take 3 parties to trigger an election though, so it'll likely be QS who will call it because PLQ and PCQ might want it within a year or two at their benefit.

I don't believe PSPP will handle the pressure of being PM well and will get into conspiracy laden rants online or with journalists pretty soon. He is so soup au lait. Possibly the least deserving prime minister we've had since the Quiet Revolution. The only one with zero cabinet experience.

He's constantly arguing with people on social media and clashing with media. Believes in US culture war nonsense and speaks out against "wokism", "the radical left" and "gender ideology". He constantly dog whistles Great Replacement theory ideas, saying immigrants crowd up schools and housing, but Quebec natalism needs to be increased.

Not a super proficient 59 elected either. Only 2 former ministers, a few Bloc and NDP former deputies, some local mayors. Way less high profile than the CAQ's bunch when they first won. Way less impressive than anything the PQ put together under Marois or Lisée.

Its going to be a shit show.

That's the way it works in Quebec we completely invest in a party, their legislative priorities are quickly manifested to be cultural or Quebec independence related, not health care or education or the economy and at some point people here realize they have been taken for a ride and completely reject the party in power and turn to another party that does the same. The PQ will wait to pursue a referendum on independence until after Trump leaves office (this was their actual position) as if when he leaves everything will be back to normal so again we will be taken for a ride.

PQ has stated a few priorities outside that which are going to be annoying.

  1. They oppose the TGV, pretty sure its why they did so good in the Laurentians but so poorly in Monteregie.

  2. They want to abolish Santé Quebec and restructure it, which will fuck with healthcare. The Dube hadnt had a terrible stewardship on healthcare and things were slowly getting better.

  3. In an extension to that they want to fire random bureaucrats. Always a bad idea. Far more to gain by cutting out all the consultants and external contractors the CAQ loved to hire. See the 3iem lien prep and SAAQClic.

  4. They oppose the 3iem lien, which is good, but they likely will be blocked at every corner by the PCQ over it as they are virtually a single issue party about this. Meaning they will likely flip on the issue and propose something.

With the QS vote they have enough votes to push for referendum. Not sure if QS will hold their nose to support them at all.

QS says there must be a proposed constitution first. PSPP and QS will never agree on protecting the same rights. PSPP will go on to say in an independent Quebec he would no longer be allowed to say the N word if QS gets their way. It will become a huge fight and go nowhere.

I expect a couple of years of locking arms with Duhaime to "stuff it to the wokes" while Trump is still around and then pivot to blackmailing QS.
