"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

A debunk of the recent AI doomer pseudoscientific video by Kurzgesagt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujkD4SxPKOI . Yes, it's over 3 hours.

unsubscribed kurzgesagt a year ago. mostly because of a rant a biologist made about the sunfish video(sorry, cant link it). but also because some videos felt really weirdly framed. looks like i made the right call.

yeah, I'm still subscribed, but don't like their trajectory, a lot of their new videos feel like they're framed too sensationalistically and light on substance. I tried out their historical channel ("Kurzgesagt After Dark") when it launched, but that was even worse, just focusing on the scandal and suffering of their subjects ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

I skip a lot of their videos nowadays, did this AI one too bc I knew it was bullshit.

Same, too many of their videos feel sensationalized when they are about something in the popular zeitgeist. I rather enjoy the more random topics that come up occasionally, like the cancer video from 3 weeks ago. Granted, I'm no biologist, so if this one was also poor quality, I don't know the topic well enough to have noticed.

4 years ago. Damn.

It was so clearly just propaganda trying to take on a scientific point of view. The countless "pointing to the problem correctly" and waving hands around solutions to attempt to reduce only worry and not the reality of the problem.
